Hey Guys.. I took the FlyZone out today and hand launched it 3 times before I cracked the wing every time It took off it would go up and drop to the right like crazy. and hit the ground. Now take a look at this engine angle and this is the way it was from Tower when I got it. Should it be this far to the Left looking down from the front of the plane? Sorry the picture is a bit blury... but I think you can see the angle OK. Thanks for any

Cougar, Two things, call FlyZone at: 217-398-0007, and tell them what happened and about your report on the Cub thread. The problem is obvious and FlyZone will probably send you a new plane. In the meantime you might "enjoy" fixing your damaged Cub. I misplaced my best protractor but the one I just used on my Cub seems to read 5.5 degrees right thrust and 3.5 degrees down thrust. The cowl will have to be removed and shims and/or structural modifications to the "firewall" will be needed to attain the optimum thrust line angles.
Five minute epoxy and packing tape works well for airframe repairs. Testors 1169 Testors flat yellow paint works great to bring the Cub back up to "presentation appearance." Don't forget to add a little ballast to the opposite wing tip to get your lateral balance back.
Since you could soon be the proud owner of two flyable Cubs, you might be delighted to discover that Tower Hobbies sells two different types of "new generation" LiPo batteries weighing around two (2) ounces as well as two different LiPo chargers, each of which cost in the neighborhood of $20 - $30. The Cub flies so much better with the lighter batteries I am sure you would really be pleased.
Better get this sent! We must get you into the air!

Jeff, yes, you are in the plane determining right and left from that prospective. Sorry I did not make that clear. Everything except that excessive right thrust looks good. Your motor is mounted correctly other than that. Looks like your cowl held up very well. A lot of us Cub flyers managed to destroy at least one. I ordered two spare cowls and motor mounts. Fortunately, most of my new spares have not been needed except for that one cowl.
If you can get some electric motor APC 7X4 props you will enjoy the difference in performance over the stock prop. I will keep looking for my good protractor. Angles can be difficult to measure so you might want to allow for some "adjustability" in your motor mount/shim system.
In proper trim the little ship is a pleasant, realistic fun flying experience. It accompanies me to the flying field every time I go out to fly no matter what else I fly, and it always gets flown.
Looking forward to learning about your successful flying adventures.

Well some do stop and watch, maybe there scared I will crash into the fence LOL, My low hovering I do ha ha.
Well I do not know what the weather will do , if its not raining Guess I will go out tommorrow( sunday) and fly, one of the guys was talking about bringing out his 120 size plane and a 8 foot wing Ceasna for me to test fly. I was there all day, almost got to test fly two cool planes but either one worked out, one wouldn't get off the ground it was a electric MIG. ducted fan it was really neat looking.
And the other was a 20% size Extra 300 but the radio was acting nuts on the ground so we didnt get to fly it either
here are pics of both airplanes I Almost got to test fly, The Mig I will get to try again, this guy has a few he needs checked out, there really neat. hes got a 60 size tiger that is electric.
Sorry for taking up ya'lls thread with chit chat, yall get back to talking about Cubs.

prowler, your friendship with Talent gives you a free pass to the thread anytime day or night, LOL. Just kidding, I'll bet everyone else also enjoys your experiences and obvious knowledge about modeling. Although I want to be as helpful as possible to Cub fans, I also find it very interesting to make comparisons with other planes and enjoy the multiplicity of relevant principles that can be interesting, edifying, and exciting/scary, etc.
If it had not been for PZ's new Corsair, I was fully committed to going after an electric motorducted fan Mig-15 I have been wanting for over a year now. You got me curious, what turned out to be wrong with the Mig you mentioned? Your pictures really add a lot, by the way. I must eventually learn how to do pictures on posts. At the moment my pictures are limited to my web sites.
I like that Saber on your post. With me a Saber is a lot like a Mustang. It has to really be close to scale for me to want to go for it. I would be very interested in hearing how that Saber flies.
Yes, if possible modeling prospects are spotted looking interested I react by flying maneuvers that I probably wouldn't do otherwise.
Well, assuming I haven't miscalculated the "political situation" on the thread, please keep posting. In my opinion modeling ought to broaden rather than restrict people's horizons.

Well I will let you know how it flys when we get it in the air. hope he gets it going soon, but to tell the truth wish he would fly it hiself , I do not mind flying normal planes for people but these other types kinda scary, I can fly anything, but just I am sure hes got lots of work in them, and lots of money.

prowler, it's somewhat comforting to learn that an experienced modeler can suffer from the same kind of "fear" that us "new" fliers do. Helps us console ourselves that we are not alone and maybe we are not quite as abnormal (?) as we might think.
Your experiences inspire thoughts about how to react in the probably inevitable event of our need to become "model test pilots" for some future new modelers ourselves. Could you share some key concepts about your procedures and training with us that could help maximize our chances of success if/when we start doing the same thing?
The price of oil dropped again today. If this could be the start of a desirable trend we may be able to afford to do a lot more in modeling than recent trends have suggested might be the case. I can't prove anything here, of course, but I find it interesting and just a "little exciting" that this latest little "trend just happened" to occur the very day after a "fighter sweep behind enemy lines" using a very special kind of ordinance against enemy strongholds. Well, I'm running a little low on ammo now so I better head back toward friendlier skies.

Cougar, great to see things working out for you. It was a pleasure to be of service.
I am going to peak charge a couple of flight batteries for today's modeling experiences. I plan to use the Cub to teach a little boy and his sister to "drive around" in a parkng lot and then put up a flying demonstration while occasionally allowing them to "carefully touch" the stick while I maintain control. I like to use the "heavy" NiMH for "ground training" and then switch to my nice light LiPos for flight. Brass bushings make the wheels last really well.

Hey All,
Today flights goes as follows. Crappy Georgia weather, but I still have to get airbourne or suffer from depression. Today, I took out the Sky Fly and the Super Cub (my FZ J-3 Cub is waiting for the prop adapter I ordered). I always start with the Sky Fly to see how the wind & themals is affecting flight. I got up 200 ft (ROG) and had to retrim for the days flight. I practiced landing and stalls. The Sky Fly did great and had the attention of my kids & fiancee. The whole time they (the kids) watched, I got the questions of why are you doing that ... how much wind is too much wind ... do you like flying in my school parking lot ? I flew and answered questions. Landed that gentle bird and picked up the Super Cub.
The Super Cub started with a ROG and slowly climbed in 10 mph winds and then really got up when I flew with the wind. I did a touch-n-go and then a parachute drop with the Drop Module. Landed and took her right back up. At that point no wind and she climbed like a frightened spider monkey. Drop the parachute man and then did some figure eights and full loop around the entire parking lot (which is the size of two fooball fields length wise and width wise one and half). I didn't realize how long I been up there until I seen the engine quit. Then a text book dead-stick landing into the wind. So good in fact my kids cheered. Then it rained the second I got the plane to the car.
All and all great a day I can't wait til tomorrow for the chance for good weather to do some more flying. My addiction grows evermore with good flights. Hope you all have days like this !!
