HI..Im having some problems with my new charger..I was suggested the 960 by my LHS because it had variable amps since I wanted to charge 1100 and 1600 batts for my 18 scale car.. For my problems: First I found that it took long for a battery to charge..I understand that charging at low amps will make the charge time longer but I still found it really long.( more then 45 min charging at 1.5..and the pack was not even getting warm). The other problem I had was that after the charger would say my batt was full..when Id go to put it in my car..there was actually no power and when checked on an other charger the pack was empty. I brought my charger back to my lhs where they gave me a new one...and same deal..same problems..So..can I really be that unlucky and get two lemons or is there something else..
Thanks
Jeremy

Did you notice if the voltage in the battery was climbing? Here is how to figure out the approximate time it should take your battery to charge. Again, this is only an approximation as there are other factors that affect the charge time.

Capacity/Charge Rate x 60 = charge time in minutes

So for example - 1600 mah / 1500mah x 60 = approx. 64 minutes

I would charge the 1100 mah at 1.5 amps and the 1600 at 2.0 amps. Also, brand new batteries do tend to false peak since the voltage in the battery hasn't stabilized yet. Let me know if the voltage in the battery is rising.

Thanks for the responce..
Yeah the voltage would go up..the charger was technicaly working perfect..would go through the cycle and beep when it was done and go into a trickle charge...all good except no juice was in the batt...lol I even tried two different power cords cause I read on here that could cause a problem..but sadly same deal..
Thanks again

Like I said n the previous post, it's very common for new batteries to false peak. So I would charge them again until they get warm.

This happened with me, too. New batteries should really be trickle charged on their first charge.

On the 960, I simply kept pressing "Start" until the _actual_ charge time was about how long it should take to charge the battery. So, for my 4200mah, that would be (4200/500). Simply take the amps at which you are charging at and multiply by 1000. So, .5 == 500, 1.0A == 1000, etc.

After the batteries charged for the correct amount of time, they didn't false peak on charges thereafter. After a few more charges, the battery was up to full capacity, and they give me good run times.
