I just set up my new hornet and took it out for a test flight. Whenever i punch the throttle, it gets off the ground but before it does, it always drifts either left to right or forward and back (just when it's barely off the ground)! I don't think it's the tail rotor, that seems ok. I've tried to just trim it out to counteract the drifting - that works but then when it gets into the air, it always seems to want to go in the direction i trimmed it (It moves at a nice clip too!) Any suggestions??

Having the same problem with mine but an getting closer. I have the subtrim menu displayed on my JR 8103. Am making very small adjustments to get the probmen fixed. If you are outside any wind will cause this very light heli to drift also. Get it high enough to get out of ground effect and the hover will be much more stable.

The drift is normal on before it lifts off, you can't trim for it. That is why once in the air it changes where it is actually trimmed to. With a litle practice you can compensate for the drift if you watch closely with slight stick corrections or as some say just point it to the right for take off, but as you get better you will not notice the drift as it builds the cushion of air it takes off from.

Thanks for the info guys. I did notice that it gets a lot more stable when it's up min the air. The drift does make it hard to hover at home though!!

You can trim for the movement in the air and it should stop it from moving around, just not the slight drift on the ground. You will get movement if you stay close to objects from the rotor blast on these little guys, but not anything drastic. Make sure the servos are solidly mounted, you can secure them with a tie wrap too. Check the blade balance too on the paddles and main, if slightly off will work abit against you.
