i have a chance to trade one of my mini rc cars for a eflite p47 with a himax brushless. ive been searching for this plane on the forums and they seem pretty good. this will be my first rc plane. would this be a good plane to start with? any input on this plane would be great or any suggestions on any others i just want to keep it electric. thanks.

I owned it at one time

She was a Blast to fly and it does fly like a Trainer just a tad heavier.

I own one also and it fly beautifully. Mine wieghts in a oz heavier than spec....maybe due to the 2 oz of lead in the nose. I was afraid of how it would fly but it doesn't feel heavy at all. I would recommend a high wing trainer tho. Not because of ease of flight but because if you start with a .40 sized plane you will have a 60" wingspan and the plane will be easier to see. Plane orientation and keeping it close enough to see is definately part of learning. Beginers have a tendency to get a little to far out then they lose orientation and then....well not good. Its bad enough to crash but when you can't find the wreckage it is real bad! The trainer will also with stand hard landings, doinks, and minor crashes better than a foamy will. Tower makes a RTF trainer with a sample Realflight simulator CD with the trainer on it and a patch cable. That would be the way I would go. The simulator is a priceless tool for learning to fly. I wouldn't recommend the full blown version until you know you are interested in the hobby so the sample CD is great. I used realflight to learn how to fly heli's. It paid for itself my first day out! I made it through 2 gallons of fuel before I crashed my heli and I had never flew one before I started learning on the sim!

My set up is a himax 2042 brushless with a geared cobri turning a 12/6 "flat" park flyer prop .(there is a differance if you order a 12/6 eletric prop/there heavier /stronger and need a more torque ) so stick to the 12/6 max on this set up but specify park flyer (if you choose this set up)
No added weight , all you do is hollow out the air tunnel that cools the battery compartment .
Add one 1/4 " by 1" wide piece of velcro that matches the female form velcro on your 11.1 /2100 Thunder power batterys .
I attached my cowl with very small , really small pieces of velcro , so all I do between flights is remove prop and cowl and change batterys ,
The plane is a rocket in this format , no need to add dead weight or the cheesy plastic wing formers on the bottom , simple tape /servoe tape can save over 3oz to 5 oz between loosing the plastic wing cra... and not having to add weight because your battery is upfront .
No rudder needed , its takes off and tracks no problem but.... I certainly dont think its a beginner plane , perhaps in its stock form it can be .
Remember one thing regardless of what plane you pic , dead weight is dead weight , adding anything in weight to a plane adds to the wing loading and that can changes the way a plane will handle , keep them all light
