A friend of mine and I would like to check out some pylon racing around the Dallas area. Are there any large events during the year in that area? We'd like to go to a big time event if one is going on in that area? Where would I find a schedule? Thanks!

The closest to Dallas that I am aware of is the Witchita Falls race which normally happens in September. Its about a 2 hour drive from Dallas.

No big time events in the DFW area. If you are talking about AMA 428, OR 422. Houston has several races a year and a fall race at Witchita Falls. Club racing in the DFW area is all .25 one design or .25 quickee. Keep looking at the pylon forums next year for dates to be announced.

We, Fort Worth Thunderbirds, are racing Q500 with .25's and it is a lot of fun. I ran a coarse average of 96mph with a Seeker and FX .25. We fly a 400ft two pylon coarse, and it's catching on fast. Last race we had 15 entries from 7 clubs. The district 8 safety officer drove up from San Antonio to compete. That's a five hour drive. Our next race is at Texas Wings on Nov 11, pilots meeting at 1:00. Requirements at this club are a little different, but I'm pretty sure it goes like this. Engine, .25 currently available for under $100.00, any airframe, and they perform a standing (from a stop) start, straight to the first pylon, with no one holding. Come on out and give it a try....

If anyone from the DFW area is reading this, I believe we are working on having a common set of rules for next season. Hopefully this will catch on an we can make it a regional series including more clubs. It is looking like Q500, 3 1/4 lbs min dry, .25 <$100 with stock muff. That's all I know for now.
