Ok I am going to try my hand at my first electric using A123 set up thanks to the help here.

I will be using a 12s2p set up to a eflite Power 160 with a Castle HV85. I will be using a jr 9 channel pcm reciever. with some Hitec/FMA high torque servos(non digitial).

my question is am I configuring everything like I would a standard lipo set up. ie motor to esc which inturn plugs into reciver which has the servos pluged in to the respective channels?

the reason I am asking this is I am reading things about regulators???? do I need seperate bat packs for the reciever?

will the reciever handle the power as well as the servos?

I dont want to burn anything up

if some one has a diagram etc to bring it into prespective i would apreciate it

It concerns me when someone choses such a large electric for a first .

You will need to either use a seperate BEC ( UBEC) or a seperaste receiver / servo battery.

Many use a 2S A123 battery for the rec./ servos in larger aircraft.

The BEC built into most ESCs can only be used with up to 3 Micro servos and not with over 3S LiPoly.
Many high cell count / high amp. ESCs do not even have a built in BEC at all.

I have a cap 231 at home that has been sitting on the shelf so I though I would put it to use. You are correct the Hv85 from castle does not have a BEC so I will have a pack for the receiver....probably better off any way just in case. I can always nurse her back to the runway if my bat pack on the motor gives up

since were are on the subject if I do configure this aircraft how much wing area should I have to support a 12 cell A123to get some decent perfrmance ie mild 3d,acro etc
