Yeah, I judged one of Andrew Jesky's flights recently at a local contest in Cincinnati Ohio, and he'd be almost through a manouver, and I'd still be on ten.

At the world championships do they hold a judging clinic prior to all the flying to make sure that the judges are all looking for the same things?

Some pics of today. Strong crosswind in the morning, more gentle on the afternoon. Good US flights in line 1, as well as France and Japan. Silvestri flew his counter rotating propeller despite the strong wind, with apparently good results. We´re waiting for the ten.

What a fantastic exciting WC this is! Our man Ola advanced to 18th place which I believe is his best ever. F3A pilots do get better with age.
I'm sad to see W. Matt drop out of the finals but I'm happy I predicted 9/10 pilots correctly in the final (See http://jonwold.blogspot.com/2007/11/2007-wc-starting-now.html )

Other names worth noticing: Am I correct in thinking it's Andrew Jesky's first WC ever? Imagine making the finals first time you try! And Stephane Carrier, what a vengeance after loosing his planes in the EC last year. And speaking of Matt and staying on top for so long but Akiba also deserves mention. I'd have to check but he's been around in the top 10 since the mid 80's.

It'll be a spectacular final and best of luck to all pilots flying. I can't wait to see the final lineup.

Just some numbers to look (preliminary results)

I don't know what is the reason behind not showing the raw result for all the panels, but always after they show the 3rd round the next information is the preliminary result with TBL and all the "magic" formulas leaving no room to see what happens in between. But with the TBL results it is no very hard to go back in the process and "estimate" the raw result and the normalized before the TBL computation.
One of the analysis form these results is that judges from panels 3 and 4 were very consistent and only few people got punished by the TBL Bloodworth, Beschorner, Ulsamer, Silvestri; some were rewarded like Colombo, Akiba and Graselli.
Panel 2 was way off and basically was the factor that changes everything: By raw scores Shulman was the winner but TBL change that and give it to CPLR (+11.25 points that’s where USA lost the team championship Shulman -13.33 points) everyone else was hurt with -20 points in average. Panel 1 was not that off but not as consistent as panel 3 and 4.

Results without TBL first 31 competitors:

Based on just watching the F07 today I thought that Chad and maybe one more German or Italian would have made the finals. Possibly their P07 results held them back.
Great job Chad!

Interesting points

A Onda beat CPLR in the semis!! This could be a very interesting final
B It looks like QQ is the only one who can challenge Onda/CPLR as Shulman maxed at 972 on the Fly off schedule
C Onda, Jesky,Suzuki and Mayr were the only pilots who dropped their prelim flights
D just using the fly off schedules those who finished in the top 10 were (I think) in the following order which is obviously critical as the contest now starts again with 2 flyoff rounds and two (different) unknowns with your best Flyoff and best unknown counting:

Onda 1992
CPLR 1987
QQ 1930
shulman 1924
seba 1902
jesky 1891
suzuki 1886
Akiba 1876
Carrier 1857
BPLR 1850 (if you doubled his successful F07 flight)

E Can someone tell us what happened to BPLR
F My predictions of CPLR, Onda, Shulman is looking a possible outcome BUT Onda really is pushing CPLR really hard (I cannot see anyone beating these two unless they have a mechanical problem) with 3rd place being taken by Shulman, QQ (who is flying better than I expected) and Seba (my pre contest predicted outside bet for 3rd if Shulman didnt do it).

Brandon - Watch out for Shulman!
He has a nack for turning it on when absolutely necessary. The flying today is a whole new ballgame with the unknowns. All the guys in the top ten have a chance of improving.

This is what the WC is all about. Excellent.

Joe (and everyone)

Total respect for Jason - i predicted top 3 for him - in fact 3rd (and didnt think QQ would do so well) but news just in from Kevin Caton aat Santa Fe is

on raw scores

Onda won first F07

QQ won first unknown

CPLR was 2nd and 4th

Very tense

Sounds awesome to me - best final ever!!

Brandon

PS I will try and find out Jason's positions.

BPLR in semis apparently cut on rolling circle - no idea why

it has got to the stage where text messages are not enough - i just got a call.

3rd round completed - yes CPLR cut. Results not yet out

Just doing warm up flights for 2nd unknown.

CPLR won in 1999 USA (Pensacola - I had T shirts made for my daughters "I survived Hurricane Floyd"), 2001 Ireland, 2003 Poland (again) and 2005 France. He must surely be ranked up alongside Hanno. Another point is that CPLR always has entered and usually won the Europeans (96,98,2000,02 and 06 - Roland Matt had a deserved win in 2004 in Portugal - first time (and only?) that an electric has won a major world/continental contest I think. Mind you, as far as I know YS had not won worlds before 1999 as i think Naruke used OS.

another call from Santa Fe. Some scores for the second F07 - raw scores so still await "the hand of TBL"

Onda 582
QQ 578
JAS 557
Suzuki 549
Carrier 542
BPLR 523

CPLR cut

Sorry, no scores for Jesky/Akiba/Seba

So Onda on the raws wins both fly off - but he needs a good unknown as QQ has a very good score against Onda on this round. So if QQ wins the next unknown we could see QQ as world champion. How weird - he has tried all these years as an Argentinian competitor and now............................

Well so much for the rumor that biplanes don't look right or can't handle the wind. Biplane sales will be going through the roof as the must have for next year.
