Chip Hyde's battery came loose & unplugged on his first flight in the finals at the USA Nats. I was there, and I remember him saying that it was because the straps were wet from the morning dew, definitely something that's preventable.

I hope not!
But you are quite right on Quique------not only a deserving Champion but a very nice guy to boot.

Yep done deal, QQ is the WC with CPLR vice and Onda in third. We just got back to the hotel from the site.

CPLR's deadstick in his round this afternoon could have very likely made the difference as it was looking to be one of the better flights that round and the contest was extremely close.

Akiba also had a deadstick today, it was extremely hot and I am sure that they simply did not expect and therefore did not have their motors prepared for the temperatures.

They fly two F schedules and two unknown schedules, and take the best of each. It is possible to lose one of each round and still win the contest.

Hello,

Here is the airplane world champion openly I would have never believed(believed), but it is real that I always said that Quique Somenzini was a sacred pilot.

The son of Quique still can be another future champion???

Patrick

Bonjour,

Voici l’avion champion du monde franchement je n’aurais jamais cru, mais c’est vrais que j’ai toujours dit que Quique Somenzini était un sacré pilote.

Le fils de Quique peut être encore un futur champion???

Patrick

Yeah congrats QQ. A long time coming but well deserved. Two bipes in the final is quite unbelievable. And Niahosa Yamada must be delighted at a 1,2,3 in this electric era.

Well done also to CPLR a great Champion and vice champion is no bad thing.

And surely Onda will be World Champion soon.

I'm really curious to know how Andrew Jesky did. Andrew & QQ only live about 200 miles apart here in the Midwest, (spitting distance in the USA ...) so it looks like pattern flying in this part of the country (Midwest USA ...) is going to gain some newfound credibility.

Credibility in the Midwest? WooHoo! I've talked to QQ once or twice. Seems like a nice guy.

Yeah, I'd be interested in how the rest of the field placed, whenever it's available. Andrew? Jason?

Dean, I remember that Flying issue, I still have it with me (hidden somewhere in the garage) ¡¡

I always wonder why you say so, since Quique did not get to the finals that WC. I believe he finished in 30th place or something...

You wrote something like "if he competes and gains recognition, in the future he will be WC"... Am I correct?

Felicitaciones Quique ¡¡ Well deserved for a guy whos is competing at the top level since his 12..

Quique won with some great exhibition of his skills, however CPLR flame out maybe (just maybe) helped a little bit. Anyway he is a great champion and deserves it. Here are some photos of today flights and closing ceremony. We are leaving tomorrow, it has been a pleasure to send some news about this WC I hope it was useful. We are very pleased since my team Ecuador did very well, we are second in South America behind Argentina. Still lots of work ahead, but some improvement is now noticeable.

Xavier,
Thank you for the continuous updates and the photos. Congratulations to you and your team. Your, and your teammates efforts are paying dividends. And the progress is obvious.
I disagree with your comment about "maybe, (just maybe)". The competition is about pilots AND AIRPLANES, both have to perform, period.
If Chip did not have a motor problem in the team selection he could have been in the US team and maybe (just maybe) the USA team could have won the team championship. MAYBE MAYBE.............

1. USA 5832
2, Japan 5731
3. France 5694

Interesting list JW.
What with QQ at nr.10?
Is there something I (and all the americans) don't know?

Yes . . he probably wished he had his BRIO . .

Yes . . now I will 'publicly' eat my words . . (even though it was a joke ).

Well done QQ . . one of the Legends of the Hobby/Sport.

I'm not rushing out to by a Bipe though . . I couldn't fly anything like QQ does

Hmmmmm . . how much WOULD he have won by if he was flying a latest BRIO ??? ( joking again . . )
