Saludos Martinoto,

take care,
Dean Pappas

Congratulations to all our US team who represented us so well. You made us proud.

I would especially like to congratulate Quique and thank him for having the trust and faith in us at Oxai that we would support him in the way he so deserved. You are now the World Champion and you bought it to us as well.

Thank you, Quique.

Back in '85 I watched a youngster fly a 4-roll rolling loop in the "waiting for the final scores" airshow in Flevehoff Netherlands, and predicted right then and there in print (Flying Models Magazine) that Quique would be World Champ some day. I rather meant that it was going to happen sooner than it did but I am so glad for Quique, his Dad and because now I will not have to eat my words.

Bravo! To all the marvelous finalists.

Dean P.

BRAVO Indeed!!!! Congratulations Quique. Well deserved win

And BRAVO to Jason and Andy. Outstanding performances by the US team members individually.

All joking aside, QQ really loves his bipe. I know for a fact he's not wishing he had his Brio.

Really cool to see QQ win, finally someone to dethrone CPLR!

Thanks to xalm04 we have a photo that makes it appear quite official. There's the trophy, the medals, the certificates, the babes, the crowd...

Congrats to Quique! A great pilot and a great human being, and a well-earned victory.

QQ won the world championships without winning a single round in prelims, semis or the final - that must be a first.

as against each other CPLR and QQ won a F07 and unknown each - i.e. if just the two in the final.

Onda - won both F07 rounds - but only 3rd

Jason's F07 schedules let him down it seems - he did great in the unknown.

CPLR's engine cut could have cost him the World title for a 5th consecutive time - but tha's all ifs and maybes

All very exciting - but QQ not winning any of the 10 rounds is amazing - but should not detract from his victory - Mr consistency!!

You are right Brandon. Look at his final's scores, very little variation and within a few points of the winning score each round. Even his worst round was closer to the top score than the other's worst round. Consistency of that magnitude wins every time.

When is the last time the US had a World Champion Gold Medalist in Pattern? I've been subscribing to model plane magazines since the early 70's. It seems to me it's always been either a European or Japanese pilot.

Chip Hyde, early 90's as I recall. He also was Racing World Champ that year I think, an achievement not likely to be repeated in my lifetime.

Definately, when it comes to the individual title, the most glorious days for USA F3A/Pattern so far was during the 60:ies. According to my notes, the USA World Champions so far:
1960 Ed Kaczmirsky
1962 Tom Brett
1963 Ralph Brooke
1965 Ralph Brooke
1967 Phil Kraft
1991 Chip Hyde
2007 Quique Somenzini

Are any of these 60-ies champions still alive?

Since I like statistics you may also find it interesting that I believe pilots from the following countries has won the title that number of times:
Austria 8
USA 7
France 4
Japan 3
Switzerland 2
Lichtenstein 1
