What is the general consensus on the best bang for the buck to charge say up to 6 cell A123s and 6 cell lipos along with the other types of battaries. I was looking at the hyperion 6 cell but the cheaper model does not come AC/DC

I did not want to spend too much money

Most chargers do not come with AC built in. least expensive 6S LiPoly / A123 balancing charger with high charge rate capabilities that I am aware of is FMA Ballance Pro HD.

If you are not a novice in electricity consider this.

I am able to charge packs beyond 4S with my FMA cellpro chargers. If you wire the node connectors, for a 6S as an example, as a 4S and 2S pack you can charge each "sub-pack" individually. So using a single charger you charge the 4S and then the 2S. The balancing ability of the charger allows you to do this.

Now here is a trick.... with two cellpro chargers you can charge both the 2S and the 4S at the same time! To do this you MUST have each charger on separate, isolated, 12VDC sources. Many AC/DC 12VDC power supplies have isolated outputs. If in doubt use two 12VCD gell cells or car batteries. The concern is that the negative side of the chargers can short circuit one of the packs if both chargers are connected to the same 12V source. For me this is an inexpensive way to charge larger packs accurately and easily.

If you need more of an explanation on the pack wiring let me know.

THANKS Bob!!!

I was debating between the Common Sense/DN Power and this Cellpro. I'm a little confused as to what adapter(s) I need for the Cellpro4S. There is the battery adapter and then another adapter that looks like it's needed to go between both of those.

The optimal charge current for A123 is 10A in my opinion, and best such charger is still BalancePro as it has some features never implemented in other chargers (e.g. wire resistance measurement and workaround). It has 250watts power to provide real 10A to 6s Lipo at full voltage.
New Cellpro will be hopefully the same principle, and its even higher power and finally has the LCD display - I guess it is worth waiting for it.

List of other chargers should count Hyperion 0610i, capable of 10A to 6s as well.
Above 6s, the charge current of 10A is a problem with power supply for charger. 250W output needs more than 25A on charger input, so we are in troubles with power supply, or with deep cycle lead acid batteries, and also with resistance of charger to power source wires and connectors/clips. That is why Hyperion0610i has ability to accept twice higher input voltage.

As for lower charge power, even that 10A and up to 12s lipo, but 180watts max, there are Hyperion 1210i and also, what I would recommend considering, Robbe PowerPeak Infinity 3, or its clone MegaPower Infinity.
They are compatible with Hyperion balancers LBA10-A thru datalink, and have graphic display capable of displaying graphs of charge voltages (also per cell). After even short experience with healthy packs, any user can see whether charge behaved right just by brief look onto this display. It is allmost the same as Duratrax ICE had, but greatly improved charger.
