Has anyone out there ever built one of these Cactus Aviation kits, either the ME 109 or P51 stangs?

I'm looking at their website and the kits looks real sweet, I want to stay with a gas engines, this would be my first scale war bird kit so I'm a newbie with regards to scale warbirds. I would like to stay in the 100" wing span, gas, and was wondering how well the Cactus kits put together, fly, and how scale are they for competition? I would appreciate anyone who's got one of these planes. Love to see your review and any build photos.

There is a much better alternative to the CA ME-109 located at the following address:

This one is without a doubt 100% scale and a far more attractive price as well.

The Cactus 109 appeals to me more than the Mustang. It is Mustang fever when ever I go to the giant scale events, and a giant scale 109 looks very sleek. The guys at Cactus produce good looking warbirds and aerobatic planes. I have seen their products at the trade shows, but have yet to see any fly with the exception of the Bearcat.

If you would like to stand out more, consider the 109.

Ray

(ps I was in Florida for a recent jet event, and saw the PCM 109, make sure you look at it if you do consider the 109)

Thanks guys, I did look at the PCM ME109, one word awesome and a great price at that too.

What I like about the Cactus 109 was the removable wings and feathers. Since I been flying IMACC Caps, Extras, Edge, I've found the removable wings are much easier to transport to the airfield without the usual hanger rash you often get with a fix wing setup.

If you've seen a PCM 109 at a show or at the airfield. Can you describe to me your inpression with regards to detail, scale quality, design, or flying characteristics? I'm seriously considering the PCM 109 but don't have enough info to make my final decision? Thx

Eddie, I have one of the PCM kits and I am building it now. The wing halves are removable from the fuse and the scale landing gear stays with the fuselage just like the real thing. For transport, the fuselage will sit on its gear just like any extra or edge. The kit quality is outstanding and I highly reccomend it. The outline is the closest to 100% scale as I have ever seen. There is a pic of the kit contents on my webpage, along with several construction pics of the progress so far. Give Pat a call and he will tell you about the several options available with this kit.

Hey Evans,

I saw your website and the plane looks awesome. What are you powering your ME109 with, what gas and size of engine? Are you going to enter in scale competition?

How is the kit detailed, are there panel lines, rivets, etc to the fuse and wing? Let me know is you're doing any modification other than what the manuel saids. Keep us up to date with current build photos as you put together the kit? I would appreciated if you could keep us posted. Thx

Eddie, I plan to use either a 3w75i or a zdz80 for power. Both engines have adequate power and have the rear carb layout which is great for narrow cowl warbirds. The fuse is gel coated fiberglass with panel lines already built in. I will apply all the rivets to the fuse and wing when I get it all done in primer. No modifications that I know of yet. Currently im doing an experiment with a smaller mustang. Ill keep you all posted soon with new pics of the Me109 when I get back to it.
Regards,
Evan Q.
