Status: offline 		I am building the vector for a friend. I am starting on it tonight. It came with no plans. Any surprises in the build? Looks straight forward enough, even with no plans. However, I dont have the exact location of where the ailerons need to be cut out... Thanks for any insight.

Status: offline 		Yep, that looks like a V-Vector, I built one about 7 years ago, very nice flying plane. At the time it was a little overdesigned and tended to come out heavy, but with the new weight limits, its probably just about right.

The only issues I had with it were getting the v-tail torque rods bent properly. It was my second V-tail, and I remember struggling a bit with them.

For aileron size, most are using anything between a 10-12" long aileron, 4-5" out from the centerline, and 1"-1 1/2" wide.

Status: offline 		I liked the V-Vector I had. It was fast enough for me to win some heats. Even lap a few people when I was flying tight.

I remember this one time shutting down the motor after some practice laps, pulling vertical and letting the plane stall to set up for landing (my normal procedure). At the top of the stall the plane did the most impressive tail slide I've ever accomplished. It was cool to watch a racing plane do that. My buddy (DHG) flying with me at the time commented that it was due to the forward sweep on the tail.

The only problem I had with it was after time, the rudder-vator pushrods began to bind. As if between racing seasons moisture got in the mechanism and caused swelling. I got rid of it after that. The guy I sold it to raced it for a full season without any problems. He's a more consistant racer/flier than I am and he said he was undefeated with it. Then I saw it on eBay for sale. He said the tail pushrods began to bind on him too. It was a weird, intermittant thing.

I'll tell you what though, that was the sweetest flying Q-500 I've ever flown. Very groovy. And landings were easy as pie.

Well, I built on it a little more and another friend finished it. I flew it this week and then ended up with it in my garage. It is fast for sure with the 46AX and tuned pipe, BUT, I still think the Viper/Predator flies alot better! It sure looks fast however............

Status: offline 		That looks great, but theres no reason it shouldn't fly as well if not better than a Viper or Predator. Mine flew great.

Where is that balanced??

I can't remember the published CG for that plane, but If its not somewhere in the 2 3/4" - 3" back from the leading edge, I'd play with CG settings.

Whats it doing that you don't like?

Status: offline 		It is just under 4 lbs dry. It is very fast, faster than my viper with the same engine. I just cant put my finger on it, something is different about it.
