I cant wait to see it.

Question: I was wondering if anyone has ever studded or made skis of something like that for a jacrabbit?

I recently stumbled on a large quarter scale and am pretty sure that it is a Raco Jac-Rabbit. The guy wants $300 for it and I am really thinking about buying it. It needs some bearings and a Servo. I am not really sure I havent checked it out yet to the full extent the other thing that it needs are some shocks and springs. Are there any places to find the shocks and springs? I work for a hobby shop so the bearings and servos shouldnt be to big of a deal. It has a Zenoah on it that is probably original. I saw it run in around July and think that it should run again if I put an effort into it. The guy that has it lowered it to sit around 1/2" off the ground. I would like to raise it back up is that possible?

I learned the raco buggies are pretty much just good for collectors or fun runners, not enough suspention tuning to compete in todays racing,
I am in the process of restoring one and parts are just a hit or miss on ebay and places like this, lucky they made 1000's of the buggies,
300.00 ... depends, if it needs a lot of work I would say 300 is borderline, if it just needed radio gear then sure,
The racos seem to be brutes and people beat them hard the shocks go out and are dry the trailing arm tubes get all bent up, you get the idea.
Perhaps since the one you like is sprint it's not beat as hard,
I guess it depends on how much you like it and want to hunt for parts if it is worth it to you
Cheers,
P.

I wouldnt be racing it I dont even race my seven nitro cars. I would just like to get it up off the ground so it is more use able to go across a yard. I would try and jump it or anything. I wouldnt say that that needs a lot of work but those are the major things that I am trying take care of. Was there one that was made at the shop like a spring car or did some one modify it to make it like this?

What you have is like when in the old school days we turned the RC 10 into a sprint car for oval dirt racing but it was a buggy,
The roll cage on yous is like on mine they called that one the Road runner the Jac Rabbit had a different roll cage,
But the factory sent cars out in whatever way they had parts to build them,
People put the extra links on the rear of the raco buggies to get the suspension travel down and it might help the weak rear trailing arms the raco's have,
Here is a picture of the dirt car raco offered, but I dont see the rear links on it in this picture.

Seems the raco dirt car could have came with wider front rims, the rest of the pan is the same.

If you remove the rear links then it will basically be a buggy again,
Raco's use big sealed bearings and are very tough if you take care and rebuild it will serve many years as a fun runner,
Like I said these cars are brutes and that one while a bit dirty doesn't seem to beat I say if you dig it buy it,
Once you clean it up and get it all RTR it will be worth more than you have in it so you cant loose.

I threw together some metal skis today and strapped them on. I'll post some pictures and test it tomorrow. I'm still not sure what do at the back. Any suggestions?

I have seen people use small chain you get at the hardware store on the tires it looks pretty cool,
you could also use spikes on the tires

If you go in a hardware store ask for small chain they have it on spools, like for hanging stuff
you will see a small one that the links are twisted, easy to work with pliers,
I suggest two pieces across the wheel where this fellow does one.

Last question. What do you mean by two pieces across the wheel? Also how much of it do you think I'd need?

yea, sounded weird to me when I typed it,
look at the pic, see he has 8 pieces going across the wheel, well use two lenghts of chain side by side on each of the 8 lengths across, my idea was to bulk it up more like the chain is the paddle of a paddle tire,
What you want is something to dig into the snow, if it's ice you would need more like spikes,
look at what real cars do and just copy it,
Also they sell spikes and things for shoes that might be worth a look
Cheers,
P.
