I have made me a transmitter pack and a couple of receiver packs from the Sanyo eneloop nimh hybrid batteries. So, what are the charging specifications for these batteries besides the old "use only sanyo charger" disclaimer? Can I just set my triton2 to normal nimh mode and let it peak detect the packs? What voltage is a full charge?

Thanks.

Just for information. The 8 eneloop batteries straight out of the package showed 10.4 volts on my transmitter after I soldered them together.

Don't the eneloop batteries have the same nominal voltage as regular NiMH cells? My impression was that only the self-discharge characteristics were different. So I think you could just charge them like regular NiMH's...but I don't own them so I'm not sure.

Out of curiosity, are they the AA sized cells, or something different?

They are great batteries for cameras etc, I would slow charge them and not more than 1amp if you want it faster, they will thank you for that as they are fairly high resistance.
Read that on Sanyos site somewhere.
ps Ive got quite a few of them for electronic devices and they really dont go flat when left alone.

CW, I am charging my rx and tx packs @ a c/10 rate, with excellent results. Great batteries, in my experience.

Airplanenuts, are you letting your charger do the automatic peak detect or are you just setting a mah limit?

CW, I'm doing the peak-detect. No problems so far.......

Rick,
How can you be using peak detection when you are charging at C/10 rate?? Takes 14 to 16 hours for a full charge at C/10.

Pete, my charger doesn't cut off before the charge is finished. Does yours?

I use an Ace Digipulse charger, it is designed only for C/10 charging and is timed for 16 hours at C/10, then drops to a trickle charge of C/50.
Most chargers that are designed to be used as peak detecting chargers can be set to charge at C/10, but cannot detect a peak, so many are designed to time out if a peak is not detected within 2 hours or so, I believe the Triton is like this, those that do not time out can be used, but just like the lowly "wall wart" have to be stopped by the user.
Regards,
Pete

I have the triton2, so it seems I should set it for C/10 (200 mah?) and 960 minutes for dead eneloops.

You can do that??? set it for 960 min. , I was not aware of this , but then I don't have the Triton.
If you charge at 200mA for 16 hours you'll be good to go

Yes it will do that, actually it will go up to 990 minutes. Now that I think of it I can also set the maximum mah it can put it, say 2000 mah? and have it cut off by itself after that.

I guess I should have asked my original question this way, will the eneloop batteries trigger the peak detect function? Does the voltage drop a little at full charge like regular nimh's do? I don't really see draining them to nothing everytime, at most 600 mah before I'm ready to charge again, which is how my previous pack got used.

yup it does. I dunno if it's possible on those triton chargers, but if it is change the peak sensativity to as big of a number as you can get it (like 30mV or something). if worse comes to worse, you may have to start the charger 3 or 4 times to form the pack =)

No it won't at a C/10 rate or forming charge, but the Triton 2 that he has can be set to the C/10 rate (200Ma) and 960 min, which is a proper forming charge.
