Well the next project is well underway!

An H1 Tiger belonging to the 2 Kompanie of Schwere Panzer Abteilung 501 in Tunisia. This will probably be the 200 or 211 tank since no photos of them exist until the day after I paint it! (Murphy's Law) Exterior colors will be Xtracrylix RAL 8020 base with 1/3 in RAL 7027 camouflage as per March '42 orders.

Upper and lower hulls have been detailed and modified to initial production, the turret and rear plate are next. Interior was gutted, L-brackets and steel plate joining them together and everything made waterproof. Driver and Radio Operator hatches replaced with metal ones, this is where all the switches, charge port and volume control will be. The aircleaners in the back get in the way of using the rear grates.

This particular HL Tiger was our first one, purchased way back in 2-06 it has the most use of all of our tanks, maybe even combined! Surprisingly only one spigot was broken and that probably happened upon disassembly! It has metal tracks and gears, the gearbox was never broken in properly, it will be cleaned and broken in again. The motors will be tested with the Watts Up meter and replaced or reused.

Modifications include the remote switches, custom eletronics tray with cooling fan for the board, provisions for two batteries, 360 turret, supergun, lengthened barrel, LED machine guns, antennna relocated and might do the adjustable rear idlers on this one.

Build pictures to follow in the coming days.

James, sounds like an enegetic project. I know it will turn out well. Have a ?. I'd like to install a couple LED MGs but haven't a clue how to do it. I have a gun salvaged off the pz III and have a couple made from Radio shack stuff. The Radio shack ones are a bit big and was thinking of maybe putting one in the muzzle of the 47mm gun, as the firing sequence works. Are the ready made guns on one of the german sites better? Since the main gun on my new Jap 97 doesn't work, I'd at least like to have a couple MGs firing.

Nice project swathdiver

pattoncommander, if you're using HL boards (which I think you are) just wire your LEDs to pins 6 (+) and 8 (-) of the "to turret" 8-pin connector, checking polarity of course (if you get it the wrong way around, they simply won't light)

You can find the ready made LED machine guns on the online auction sites.

If you want to make your own, here's how:

Start with part of a model sprue or the actual machine gun barrel from the tank. Take a pin vise with the smallest bit you have and drill a hole completely through it. I bought an assortment of fiber optic wire for about $5 online somewhere but you can also use fishing line. Put some into the hole having it end just inside the tip. On the inside, don't let the line stick out here either. Take an orange LED, put some shrink wrap around it and the end of the barrel and heat it up to stick it in place. I also glue each end and or coat with a little RTV for insurance. Then attach your wires and resistor if necessary. The resistor is only necessary if you have the machine gun light up to take the place of the main gun warning light as it uses full battery voltage. I'm going this route for the turret MG on this tank to minimize the wires going into it.

I didn't invent this stuff, learned it right here from our fellow tankers. I forgot the name of the guy who posted it, please forgive me and chime in to point the new guys to your post please.

Hi!

It was my post... but since then I made the MG to movable. I made it from a mouse track ball.

Thanks! I knew your name started with an S! Gotta start putting everyone's names on the pics when they're saved! Thanks again and the track ball is an even better idea!

Hey guys, thanks for the help. James, if I want to put a red LED in the cannon muzzle, where do I hook it up? I am using HL boards.
I'll also have to look for the numbers on the board. I haven't seen any adds on the E-Town Bay but on a couple German sites. Anything out there that i should look at?

Bill, do you want the LED to light up with the left stick pushed forward as if you firing the airsoft unit? If so, that's easy! The center wire coming in from the bottom is power, the others are grounds. Follow the diagram on the right, you can eliminate the safety switch and gun motor.

The second photo shows where you'd attach the wires if you wanted the LED activated by the K-button on the controller. Check the voltage first, you'll probably use a resistor on this one too.

Look up blueslateman, militarymightuk-gb and pugwash. All have provided excellent communication and very reasonable shipping to the USA from the UK.

Right on Swathdiver, you are backing up your words with your own build, and I am anxiously waiting for you progress! You got the experience and I can make less mistakes if I see how you do it first! I am especially curious to see how you are going to do the double battery, I think that is a great idea!

I have installed the cannon flash LED to come on with the K button and I used a 100 ohm resistor it worked out Great! And it did not affect the sound at all, and theLED I used is an 8 degrees 5 mm super bright yellow, the light is bright enough for a cool flash if you set it at the very end of the barrel! Oh and be careful it is a tricky soldering job even for an expert. I burn a foil on the positive side on one of my build and I can show you where to connected it on the oposite side if the sound card top of the ESC board! Well just be carefull and patient and you won't need to do that!

James, I want to hook up the mg and cannon sounds with the LEDs on HL boards. The turret is empty on the Jap tank, so I'd have to go to the main board or the small one to the turret. Tried to find the right wires by the tails of the cut original wires simple contact but no flash. Better to eliminate the small one altogether?

Perry: Gotta have a Supergun! Why else own a tank? hehehehe

Bill: Ok, to hook up the LED to the K button on the controller you'll attach your wires using the second photo. Two wires running into the turret from the board.

The hull and or turret MGs are done using the 6th and 8th pins on the connector on the upper hull. Check out wacky's attached diagram.

Blitz: Here's the proposed wiring diagram for this build with twin batteries. For ease of installation and removal they'll use a Tamiya Y-connector.

Thanks James, I got it now, a skematic is all I needed for the electrical! Now I still can't wait to see how you fit it all? I have seen one guy split the battery open and put the cells in the grove down the side, but that was one battery adn it was a HL Pershing, but it fit well!

SuperGun, Thats perfect!
