Hi to all from across the pond.

After the sad loss of my Limbo Dancer due to a Rx failure I decided it was about time I built a plane from plans. Being the first (proper) build in 16 years I wanted something simple to build whilst being enough to get my teeth into.

After hearing good things about the different Hots variations I found this plan downloadable free online on the Profili website.

After about a week this is as far as I have got

Profile fuselage 1/2" balsa

I covered the tail plane one evening just to see if I still could

Started the wing last night

I'd appreciate any advice on this build. It's been a while as I say but thanks to forums such as this one Ive learnt and refreshed my memory so much. The control surfaces are solid balsa 1/4", I'm thinking it would be a good idea to cut holes in these aswell to keep the weight down? Any other ideas to make this plane successful are greatly received.

Cheers

Guy

Nice build, it's good to see someone rolling their own instead of a BARF. I would build the control surfaces up from stick stock to ensure the grain runs the way it should for all the areas. It will be lighter, stronger and less likely to warp during covering and in use. Also, make sure you watch the weight of the sticks. Often, stick stock is very hard balsa and weighs a ton. The best option is to cut your own stock from decent sheet, it gives you just the size you need and lets you have a much better selection of wood density and quality that way.

Great tips Mark thanks!

I'm also considering mounting the elevator and rudder servos at the tail mounted with 2mm ply around them. Good idea or will this make the fuz too weak?

Well I got some more done last night.

The wing is almost complete now

Ailerons constructed and I bit the bullet and cut a hole in the fuselage for the rudder and elevator servos for shorter control linkages

Ive not come across anything to bite me on the butt yet regards to the build. The plans seem quite straight forward and accurate. The wing will be non-detachable

I hope to get done for the weekend, I'm itching to get flying this thing

Hi All

Well after a dry run attaching the wing and tail plane I was very happy to see everything aligned rather nicely Unfortunately I didnt get a picture of the plane with control surfaces, radio gear and engine etc installed in my eagerness to get it finished.

Last night I covered the fuz and spend most of the evening scratching my head over the undercarriage. I dont have a wire bender at the moment and trying to fabricate the springs on the wire was impossible so I bent the wire to go through the fuz and fixed with standard undercarriage fixings. It seems pretty rock solid and will hopefully be strong enough

Ive no idea what the all up weight is going to be but Im still slightly worried its going to come out heavy.

I have this afternoon off so hope to get things moving now my undercarriage headache has gone.

Hope this info helps anyone attempting the profile hots

I see you have covered the Fush. I would have thinned the top and bottom to get away from the blocky look and a lot of weight. You can remove lots of weight without loss of strength.

A lot like the Morris knife...built several and recently killed the last one with a bad battery in the Rx, my fault(usually is). I see the Hots is a little more stretched out and should be a little easier to hover.......where did you obtain the plans?
Thanks, Bruce

Hi guys

The plans are free to download from Profili

Also cool software to tile the plans on A4 although you do have to donate 10euros I think to use it for printing. Well worth it. You can see from some of the pictures where Ive taped the plans together.

"I see the Hots is a little more stretched out and should be a little easier to hover" Glad you said that bruce.

I have an ASP .40 2stroke to power this plane, do you o think thats enough?

I was hoping to get this finished for tmw but too many chores are getting in the way The weather forecast has changed here anyway which is a shame

I flew the Morris Knife with a MVVS 45 and loved it...the MVVS is a lot more powerful than the ASP/Magnum. You may find the 40 a little lacking. Actually a 70 size 4 stroke would be great, in my view.

Hmmmm I got two saitos, ones a brand new .62 and ive got an .80 that you can see in the photos. I bought the .62 for a Cmpro Extra 330 that Ive not built yet and the 80s without silencer at the moment. I think if the ASPs lacking I will invest in a J'en 57 2stroke (40 size case)

Shame the OS46FX that I had powering my Limbo Dancer didnt survive the crash, would have been perfect, that pulled my Limbo vertical no problem

Cheers for the advice
