Then there is a problem with the CellPro or battery.

If you built packs from the VPX battery packs you did remove the thermistor and such from the cells, correct?

Since this thread seems to be where the latest A123 info is going...

The July issue of RC Car Action has a roundup of new products from RCX 2008, and among them is an "A123 Racing/Enerland Nanophosphate Charger." There's a small picture of a little charger thing hooked up to one of the yet-unreleased 2200 packs. The charger looks small and familiar, like it's a derivative of some charger that's already out. But I can't pinpoint it so it may be a coincidence. The description is as follows: "New from A123 is this charger that charges Lithium Ion batteries. It charges a pack in 15 minutes and features automatic balancing." It says it's too new for a part number or price.

If anyone is interested it's on page 82 of the July 2008 RCCA.

I love it this is the Official A123 Racing Support Forum and news / info has to come from other sources. See post 142 and 143.

IMO A133 Racing is way behind the curve on supplying chargers and battery packs. There are many very good LiFePO chargers availble now with more capabilites than the A123 Racing ones.

Thanks for the info.

I have had trouble balancing an 1100 A123 pack with the fma cellpro 4s. I could ballance the pack using a resistor to lower the high voltage cell and charging the pack again (with several iterations). So I sent the battery and charger to FMA. They returned both saying there is a bad cell in the pack.

I bought another pair of 1100 cells and am getting the same results: a 300 mv difference between cells. What is wrong?

Contact FMA. This is a "known" issue, and latest firmware update to 2.08 resolves this 1100 VPX cell peaking issue.
(Sorry to crash the A123 thread, folks....just saw thaus' post, and wanted to help)

There is a full page ad in the June issue of Model Airplane News (page 54) for an A123 Racing "NANOPHOSPHATE 1100" 6.6V battery pack. Also on the page are a "18650 cell" and a "26650 cell" with specs. A "Sonic Charge" charger is there as well.

Howard at FMA said version 3.02 is the most recent firmware. This is what I have and cannot balance 1100s. I know the cells are good because I have charged them individually and get full mah out of the pack.

Not sure what your point is. I stsrted this Thread on 11-06-07 and this was approx. a week after I started a sinilir Thread on RC Groups and wattFlyer.

It is now 6 1/2 months later and A123 Racing still does not have the 1100 mAh packs or a charger for them. Brian rarely respons to any post.

I just find it strange that the Official A123 Racing Support Forum gets very little support from A123 Racing and that they are so far behind other vendors supportin their cells / batteries.

See post # 144 . Three weeks and no reply.

Should I say another week and still no reply? Perhaps they are posted on the A123 Racing site now.

Yes the A123 Racing packs are now being carried by more vendors ,one of which is http://www.battlepack.com/A123P.asp

Hey nice link everyday flyer, not bad prices on there (for those of us who would buy a pack like this rather than assemble one ourself).

Each of these VPX packs has a little thermistor in them. They appear to have the same temperature/electrical characteristics of the Eagle Tree Systems temperature probes, so save yourself a few dollars and recycle them.

For all I know, these are a pretty commonly used part and may also work with other temperature sensing electronics in our hobby.
