Someone at the airport told me Dick Collins sold his P210. Did anyone hear that? I was just curious, I like his columns in Flying Mag. He has to be the highest time P210 pilot on Earth.

That's got to be something. Dick Collins has had his P210 since, what, 1978?

Close, he took delivery in '79 he writes.

I looked it up on flightaware; its last flight from Maryland to Georgia was Sept. 17th. I've learned a lot from Collins over the years. A whole lot.

Here is the recent column:

So 40RC is going to be scrapped? I don't know if I could ever do that to an airplane, but his justifications were very clear. Must've been an agonizing decision--somewhat like putting a faithful dog to sleep.

I've been reading Flying since I was a child. I feel I've practically grown up with 40RC.

If I had to do that to my 182 (with me for 11 years now) I'd probably be in deep depression for days, weeks, months even.

Good thing Dick Collins doesn't write like Gordon Baxter, Martha Lunken or Lane Wallace. Otherwise I'd find myself in tears.

I'm surprised that an airplane like that would become completely uninsurable. I've read most of his books/articles and watched most of his videos, and it's clear that he LOVED that airplane. I'm sure he will be left with many fond memories.

I used to watch him and that airplane on the Jepp videos in college. I think they were the "air facts" segments. He taught us about pressurization, complex, high performance, inflight icing, and a lot of other stuff with that airplane. Even did a dead stick landing with it for the program. It was like reading that he had just had to shoot old yeller. Good thing he doesn't write like the aforementioned authors or Len Morgan.
