How would a Table top Scroll saw work?

Like a hot knife thru cold butter ...

That would be the DEFINATE way to go as long as the throw arm is long enough to do what you want .
( I , myself , use a dremel with the formica counter top cutter and slant/angled guide . I use the cutter at a 45 degree angle - which is the angle the counter-top guide is pre-set at , then I adjust the depth to the same thickness as the wood I am using and botta - boom botta bing .. its done . granted ... it always leaves a little bit that is uncut , but ..as was stated above ... there is ALWAYS some sanding that will need to be done anyways . )

To heck with scroll saws!!!, if anyone wants this kit laser cut I have the connection. Once you go laser you wont go back! My buddy and I build jets and other higher end stuff so its top notch work and he will do it for a very reasonable price. Shoot me a PM if interested.

We could even do a short kit of this boat so for those interested show me some reasonable kit prices and I'll talk it over with him. Short kit means the wood is laser cut and thats it, you will need the PDF plans supplied here to build it but you wont do any cutting, just fit and glue and you will have it framed up in no time. I might even invest in one to see how it goes. I love these big cats, whats one more!

Chris

One more thing for those of you who have built/plan to build or just bought supplies, how much have you spent in wood alone? Thanks

LOL This is the man with the laser. We are going to work out the details of the boat and make a quick sample to check things out. Will post pics. That will help with the kit price and for you all to see what you get.
Should be cool , stay tuned,

Chris

I always cut a little bit outside the lines and then use an electric sander to sand back to the lines. This is a lot more accurate for me. Doug

Thats how ive allways cut plywood with a jigsaw and a good tip is to score the lines across the grain with a sharp knife first to stop splintering.

I am using the plans for myself! If someone wants to pay me to cut a short kit, I am not going to turn them down.

Yeah this is more like a cutting service but we have to figure out if the plans are any good because so far they are missing hull planking details. If we make a new boat from this point and improve on it and change things a bit then its a new boat. You can sell your boat plans or give them away thats your choice. I assure you we are not just going to make your plans and sell them as ours or anything but why spend so much valuable time cutting these out by hand when you can have them cut more accurate and quicker? If it will smooth things over we will design a whole new boat, start a new thread and have nothing to do with your plans...not a problem. I would rather give it a more scale Class 1 look with intakes and a new deck/body line anyway, that would work.

payed $130 AU today for a 2400mmX1200mm sheet of 6.5mm BB grade ply (~AU$60) and a sheet the same size of 1.5mm marine grade ply (~AU$70).
there will be HEAPS of wood left over as well (the 6.5mm stuff anyway)
using the exchange rates on the news this morning (AU$1=US$0.88) its about US$114 (i think)
Hope it helps!

Thomas

The exterior grade AC ply would have been fine instead of the marine ply (probably could have saved you a bit of money). I have a fair bit left over from my build. I'll probably build another one in winter next year when I have more time. I strongly recomend getting a GOOD QUALITY face mask before you start cutting it out. I missed the purple stamp recomending you wear face mask when sanding & cutting, & it gives you a killer sore throat when you breath that dust in. It can't be good for you .

yea, probably, but i dont want it breaking on me, bein my first boat and all. so i splashed out and got the marine ply. oh well

ill get a good mask when im cutting the marine ply n sanding it all... iv just finished cutting out the big bits n the jigsaw blade i used didnt give off any dust.

First these arent my plans i have had them a cpl of years and got in undated with requests for them so after a kind offer from bbmods who put them on an uplink i decided to start this thread.I didnt mean to offend you but if you can design boats why use these plans?,that said if people want you to lazer cut a few kits for them i see no reason why you cant do that .I have a thing about splashing etc ,if your thinking of making a lot of these i suggest trying a new design of your own that maybe you can share with us scratch builders and keep the kits for those that dont like cutting wood etc,i for one quite enjoy the process of cutting and sanding etc it feels more like a scratch build that way as everything was done by me .call me old fashioned if you like but its just how i am.
