Default Santa Fe, Argentina Team Hong Kong

My team mates Alex Lau, Hung Kay Li and I arrived Buenos Aires on Sunday along with the Chinese and Thai team. Went to check out the event site and the practice field closet to our hotel on Monday - about 35 km. Chad and Dezso from Canada were there practicing along with the Chilean team, with Mark and Dave arriving on Tuesday.

We started practicing early Tuesday morning. The club is situated right next to a small private airfield with a paved but very rough runway. Since the runway faces some pretty tall grass and with trees right at the pit area, it makes both flying and landing quite interesting, especially when wind speed picks up as the day progresses. We were again joined by the Chilean team and later with the team from Thailand.

Default RE: Santa Fe, Argentina Team Hong Kong

Plane wise, Li and I both flies Akiba's ProLine, with Alex flying a Naruke built Aires.

The Chilean team flies a Genesis and two Captain II, the original Captain was designed by Naruke, made in Korea for the Asian market. I don't know whether the Captain II is an evolution of the original one, but it is definitely not designed by Naruke. After I gather more info, I will report again.

The Thai team consists of two Liner and an X-treme Composites ProLine, flown by one of their owner/ Thai team member - Nattawut. The production version is a lot better than the one I received from BVM, with no visible seams on the fuse. I had a discussion with Nattawut, and suggested some area that needs to be improved on. The Liner is a new design from Thailand. Some of you may remember the pattern plane the "Beam" from last year, with the Liner being a much better looking plane. Also, one of the most interesting thing about the "Liner" is it has a small wing in front of the canopy.

Since we only had three teams practicing on Tuesday, each pilot got in at least 5 flights before the sun started to set at 7 - it's spring time in Argentina. However, as mentioned on my previous post, wind had been pretty strong during the whole day with 90 degrees crosswind pushing out.

The Chinese team and us traveled to the practice field together early Wednesday morning, and were greeted by even stronger crosswind. At times, everyone was having a tough time struggling to stay within the 165, 170 m line, with some of us got blown out all the way close to the 200 meter line.

The three members of the Chinese team is flying an Oxai Adventure, an Oxai Zeque and a Naruke built Astral XX Plus that used to belongs to my team mate Alex Lau. All three of the Chinese team members were flying well, with two of them in their early teens.

Flying style varies between fast and mid speed but generally pretty tall with big maneuvers.

Time for some long overdue zzzzzzzzzz, will report again tomorrow ...

Hey Chris,

Thx. No problem at all. The only issue was the canopy is cracked, but was my own fault during packing with no prior experience. I glue it with some CA and tape it with scotch tape, it's a bit ugly, but didn't hurt the flying. However, it will be an easy but EXPENSE fix.

Hi Adrian, the best of luck to you and your team. Give my regards to Alex and tell him I am looking forward to getting my Oxai Aries after the Worlds. Wish the Philippine team could have benn there with you guys but our schedule does not permit it.

Registration yesterday. At times, very confusing, we didn't get back to our practicing site until 4:30 in the afternoon. Fortunately, only the Thai team was present, and each of us got in 3 flights before sunset.

More practice today, Wind continues to blow, 45 degrees pushing in this time. Not only do we have to deal with the cross wind, but also gusty, bumpy condition.

Team managers meeting tonight, 2009 WC will be at Portugal. It looks like I better start making my travel arrangement soon

Tomorrow - Saturday is our team's official practice day. Each team is alloted a 45 minutes time slot for practice, pretty much one flight per team member. We'll be on flight line A tomorrow. Hopefully, will have time to report tomorrow night.

Thank you all for the best wishes.

We had our 45 minutes practice this morning - 15 minutes per team member, plus courtesy sound check. The French team was the first to practice, with Christophe flying last. He was having some problem getting his 170 started, his flight was good but not flawless. The Canadian team was second, follow by us.

Alex put in a real good practice flight, Li's rudder cable came loose in the middle of his flight ended up with a short one. Mine dB at 92.7, right away I knew something was wrong, since I tuned the engine to around 93.5 dB during practice. After take off, I noticed there wasn't much smoke coming out of the exhaust. As soon as I pulled into the 1/2 Clover, it was underpowered and knew the engine was running too lean. For the rest of the flight, I struggled on the verticals, and barely had enough power to finish my flight.

Afterwards, we had model processing to check for length, weight and correct frequency.

Christophe and Benoit's Osmose. Stephane's Integral. Our three planes, and the Canadian's:-

Some plane pix from the Japanese team. Akiba's ProLine - one wood and one X-treme version. Onda's Narlar, he's also flying an Aries. Suzuki's new plane - the Mid Rex. BTW, his current plane is pronounced Za-Kuo, not Z Q, or ZEEK. The Mid Rex has a very slim fuse, kind of returning back to the good old days.

Thanks for the posts Adrian. good luck tomorrow! Please give me regards to Mr. Suzuki and I assume his brother is there also. Shunichi was a great source of info for me when I was building my Zeque. Now maybe I can hit them up for a Mid Rex....unless Mr. Akiba wants to build me an electric ProLine???????

Hey A.. glad to find these posts of yours, been looking at Blogs for the last days. Good pictures, I want the CD when you get back home. Try to breathe when you are flying, relax and forget you are at the WORLDS!! It's just another contest.. not! I'll count on a T60 finish as planned. Good luck to you.

Adrian just called me - he finished his 1st round and averaged a 440 from the 5 judges. He got one zero from one judge on his snap - the other judges gave him 7's. He beat his one teammate, Dragon, who averaged a 404. Wind blowing in "big time" according to Adrian and very bumpy. He said he saw Onda (Japan) fly and it was ok.

Just returned from the field. Echo what Derek had mentioned, the three of us flew in the morning. Wind started to blow early, with crosswind blowing in. All three of us passed noise test, well, for round 1 anyway .

We stayed for the afternoon session to watch the Japanese, wind speed decreases quite a bit. Onda flew first with his Aries, very solid flight, but nothing spectacular. Suzuki flew second with his Mid Rex with the OS 200 FI, with extremely fast speed. Obviously, the slim and slippery fuse is not helping. Both the 8 point and reverse knife wasn't that good. Akiba flew last with his 200 powered wood ProLine, he was pretty solid, and his throttle management was top notch. The OS 200 has plenty of power, and sounded really nice, even better than my 170. May be time to jump ship, not

How did that pix get in there? It was meant for personal consumption only

BTW, just a quick note, 2 pilots that I know of were over the noise limit. A young kid from China who flies an Oxai Adventure, he averaged a 512. They retested his plane after his flight, dB at 96, ended up with a zero round. Another pilot from Thailand - Nuttawut - part owner of X-treme Composites had a retest after his flight also, dB at 99, way, way over the noise limit. Again, zero round.

Hey Adrian:

Thanks for the pix.
Can you give more details about that counter-rotate motor Angel's Shadow? Looks very interesting. How she flies? I'm curious what will happen after cancel out the torque.......
