If your community has a hazardos materials disposal facility take it there or if they allow open controlled burning put it in an open metal container in a fire pit and burn it.

If the fuel's still good then put an ad in your local free community newspaper and *give* it to some kid who can't afford to buy their own.

Otherwise just burn it and take the remaining oil to your local garage for disposal along with their own waste.

Alternatively, most of the good synthetics and castor oils are surprisingly biodegradable so you could simply use it as a short-term weed-killer around the house.

Remember -- if it was going to be used in an engine it'd get burnt anyway so there's no (greater) environmental issues here.

Keep it to wash out your engine the next time you dunk it in the dirt or it also makes a good parts washer.

Using it for breaking in or washing engines is a good idea. Or donating to a kid as long as he knows it is old.

I have a thirsty 32cc Super Tiger; nothing gets wasted. If it's over 6 months you should use it as engine cleaner. I have blended lot's of different old fuels for my Super Tiger, it eats everything in site. As long as my oil content is 13%, it rocks. On the other hand, I've had very good results by adding some fresh methanol to old fuel and it worked great.

I bought a gallon of coolpower from a friend that he has had for at least 2 years in his closet floor. Its the old jug that has the writeing on the bottle not a sticker. Its the four stroke stuff. I have been running it just so i could see what the loss in power would be like from running old fuel. But i can't see any diff in my 2 or 4 stroke engines with it. Didn't even have to re-adjust the needles. This gallon must have faired better than others

Bad fuel exhibits problems like the engine unexpectedly quitting and being unable to set the needle valve.

The engine will sound too rich (rough) right up to the point of lean cut-off

I bought some fuel at the hobby shop that quickly turned bad. I kept it around to break in engine. It would only run with the glow heat on. and at about half throttle.

I've also given it away to people at the field who seem to like to run bad fuel.
