I'm buying my 5 yr. old grandson his first R/C: a Nikko truck. (He has to start somewhere). Those cheap 4 hour chargers that come with it are a joke. Will my MRC 959 charge those Nikko 9.6 eight cell battery packs? I'm pretty sure it will, but I haven't read any postings on it. Last question: what should the charge settings be at?
Any help would sure give a little 5 year old kid a better Christmas. Thanks!

Welcome to RCU.

Yes, it will do the job. You'd have to post the specific battery, but most nicads use 8-10 mv per cell for the threshold and the rate can be set to the battery capacity probably.

It should work with no problem, like guver said, just let us know capacity and whether it's a NiCd or a NiMH and we'll give you the proper settings. You could probably just let him hit the start button, but I would rather know the size battery before I tell you to do that.

Well, the Nikko Jeep for my grandson is a 9.6 volt, with eight AA cells in the pack. Rechargable of course. The pack from the factory is rated at 700 MaH, but I've bought a couple aftermarket packs of 2300 MaH. Should give him a lot more run time and a little more power.
What do you think? 3 amp charge on my Superbrain 959?
Thanks for the help!

The 750 mah pack I would charge at no higher than 1.5 amps, and the 2300 mah at no higher than 3.5 amps, but just hitting the start button on this one would be fine. I would charge them both on the wall charger first, and the use the 959 on subsequent charges.
