Nah, not really. Atleast not what i consider a good bashing. It runs great though. The truck gets up really well, and seems incredibly fast up top. I need more space to wind it out real good though. It doesnt seem to be a real fuel pig either.

I bet that thing moves pretty good with a .36 and a 3 speed. That's cool it doesn't guzzle the fuel too bad.

Need some advice from you engine guru guys

I got my vspec pinched a while ago. I couldn't get it to run so I have been using the RTR mach 427 engine. I'd like a real race engine in there so I am trying to get that vspec running again.

Biggest problem seems to be it just does not want to suck up fuel. I've replaced all gaskets (between pipe and header too), set needles to stock settings, sealed the carb and backplate, changed the plug, added\removed shims, etc. Even when I hold my finger over the exhaust is just won't pick up fuel. I think it has sucked some up here and there, but nothing to make it start. It will attempt to fire if I dump a little fuel on top of the piston.

Dropping in the 427 and changing nothing else the 427 runs fine.

What am i missing?

You could pull the pressure line off the pipe and blow into it to get fuel to the engine to get it started. How well does the piston fit in that re-pinched sleeve? Does the engine seem to be turning over good?

It wont draw up any fuel? Did it do this before you sealed that engine up? Have you tried just blowing air thru the carb, to see if it feels blocked?

I only sealed it because of the fuel problem. I'll try blowing air in to see if it is somehow blocked.

The piston is very tight in the sleeve, so I assume it is OK. Hard to check the fit now as the button is stuck in the piston and I can't get it apart.

Maybe it is too tight causing the piston to stick in the sleeve and the flywheel is spinning on the crank. Just a thought in case there isn't a restriction in the carb.

I pulled the carb apart and didn't really see anything that caught my attention. I sprayed nitro clean slowley through each part and verified that liquid could infact pass through.

Brian, I don't think the flywheel spinning on the crank is the problem as I can hear it turning over and my the engine locks up really easy. I had only 3 times where the engine was turning over really good and I was able to try and plug the pipe to get fuel in. Each of those 3 times I had it turning over a good 30 seconds and no fuel would get picked up. By that time my box was dead, I hadn't charged it since last weekend.

So I resealed the carb and made sure the holes for all nedles were placed inline with the inlet holes. You guys know what I mean if you took one apart before.

I'll give it another go tomorrow. Hopefully it will suck fuel.

Sounds like the repinch of your cylinder sleeve went awry. Your no longer producing compression through the exhaust port into the pipe to push fuel. So in essence you have a bad repinch of the sleeve which is causing your piston to stick at top dead center and not building any compression on the upstroke to produce pressure into the exhuast system. Rebuild it and it will run

Batman, check that the sleeve is facing the right direction. I know Sandor had a similar problem with a motor, and he found the sleeve was backwards. Usually the notch prevents that, but things can happen. Its worth a look anyway.

Got it running. Turns out that when setting the needles to stock settings the mid range got screwed all the way in. I only noticed this while I had the carb in my hand during the rebuild. I would screw the low end needle all the way in, but when I started to back it out to stock settings I felt the mid range moving as well. So as I backed the low speed out it would lean out the mid range until it was closed off.

Thanks for all the help.

On my 4th tank now, should be ready for Sunday. I'm also giving you guy's fuel a try, see if there is any performance gains. Been itching to try a different fuel for a long time.
