Someone recently gave me a motorcycle battery but no charger. My current 12V battery/charger combination is the Hanger 9 sealed battery. Do you think that charger would be big enough to charge a motorcycle battery? If not, does anyone have a suggestions for a reasonable priced charger?

Check out a battery charger called "Battery Tender", they have a version made specifically for motorcycle batteries. It charges at a good rate for motorcycle batteries, then switches automatically to a float charge.

web site is http://www.batterytender.com/index2.html

I have one left over from my motorcycle days, works great on my field battery.

The charger that came with your Hangar 9 battery will work fine. Hobby gel-cell batteries are around 5 to 10Ah (Amphour); cycle wet-cell batteries also fall in that range. You want to charge gel or wet-cell lead acid batteries with a 500 mA (.5 amp) to 1500 mA (1.5 amp) charger for 6 to 10 hours. With a 500 mA charger more towards 10 hours; 1500 mA around 6 hours.

If the fluid level in the battery drops, add "Distilled Water ONLY". DO NOT add acid or tap water to bring the level up.

An automatic charger is nice; you just connect and let it run. You can get them anywhere they sell 12-volt batteries. This site has a good automatic Vector Charger on sale for $12.00.
