JEFFRO503 -> got a jett 90 LX with alleycat..need exhaust ext? (11/12/2007 6:58:13 PM)

hey Bob......quick question for you. I have a used jett 90 LX ( yellow muffler) i'm buying from a guy here on RCU. I'm going to slap that sucker on the front of a little cermark alley cat , and need to know about how to get one of the extensions. I looked at some older pics you posted in another thread....that's where i found out i would probably need one. Should i write or call you guys? BTW here is a pic you posted a while ago.............

Thanks for writing.....

yes, you need the "lil toni" extension kit.

You can order that using the order form on the web site - just indicate that kit, and that you own the 90LX engine.
I forget the price of the extention kit off hand....

Thank you Bob....much appreciated again! I'm going to be reading through some threads about the motor , and have to decide which fuel ( hopefully just something i can get from my LHS) and a prop. What's the best prop size / pitch and brand that you have used Bob? I'm thinking probably a 11"-12" prop , just don't know what pitch , and what brand i should use yet.

again....thanks alot for the reply bob.

Hi Jeff...

Fuel : regular 15% fuel....... just your usual castor/syth blended sport fuel is fine.

Prop: APC 11x8 on that engine/aircraft. Everyone flying the LX on a toni or alleycat came down to that same prop for best performance. An 11x9 works ok too, and a 12x6 works great as well if you want to give up a bit of top end speed for better take off and climb performance.. or if you fly at higher altitudes. Any prop of your choosing that will permit the engine to turn "over" 14,000 peak ground rpm is fair game. Find peak rpm briefly, back off 600-700 rpm from that for flight.

A few things on that engine install though.....

1) make sure the fuel tank is 100% padded... not touching anything.... or it WILL foam the fuel. Quite a few alleycat owners went with bubble-jett or tetra bubbless fuel systems to avoid any potential problem.

2) mount the remote needle valve on the airframe. Remove it from the engine, bolt it to the firewall. Makes for a nice installation, and it also avoids a potential fuel decavitation and micro-bubble issue when using regular fuel tanks.

3) Hot glow plug - Rossi 3, MC56, K&B1-L are good starters. The OS-F plug has also proven to be VERY good in this engine.

God dang Bob.......thanks alot!! I was actually going to order one of those cool bubbless fuel tanks you guys have on the jett website........is that the one i'll need for this lil' plane? Thanks again.....i know you have probably explained this stuff numerous times. It's nice to get some advice from ya!!

hunt down Buddude8 in the extreme speed forum..... ask what tank he and his brother ended up using in the Toni and Alleycat installations. They may have had the larger Tetra tanks, or the jett 12oz.
