mv-warbird -> nitro in a moki 180 (11/12/2007 8:36:41 PM)

hello,

oops i posted fuel ques in glow forum, sorry.

i have acquired a giant scale cap with a moki 180 in it.
the previous owner only ran fai 0% fuel in it.

0% is kinda hard to get for me.was wondering if a 5 or 10% nitro fuel would be ok to us.

i know big euro engines like low nitro content fuels but dont know if a 5 0r 10% would hurt the engine.

any help is great
thanx.

G'day Mate,
5% is low nitro, use it with confidence, it won't hurt the Moki.

Use an OS "f" plug, stick with the no nitro and you will save some money.

G'day Mate,
If you read the post above, he can't get 0% nitro fuel, where he is.

G'day to you, if you read it a little closer you will see that he said it was hard to get, not that he could not get it. It is readily available in many hobby shops in the U.S. and readily available by mail order from Tower Hobbies. There also is the option of mixing it yourself by getting Methanol from speed shops and oil from there or motorcycle shops.
I have about 6 moki's in my shop, all run very well on no Nitro. With their thirst for fuel, the savings in a season can be substantial.

JL1,

What kind of oil do you get from either speed or motorcycle shops that will mix with methanol?

thx

Klotz oil is the one I use. They have a website that explains their different products. I use the synthetic that contains 20% castor. There are others, castrol for example, but I do not have direct experience with them.
It can be expensive in single quart quantities so it pays to shop around a bit. I think that the Klotz website has a list of dealers that would help you look around. If there are any racing Kart shops/tracks around, that can be a good source of both oil and methanol ("Alky" to a lot of the Kart guys)
