I started out this morning by making a template to reflect the curve on top of the blocks. This is where it has led me:

OK - I had a slight malfunction that has caused me to re-think the Alumilite Plastice Rudder Control Horn. It Broke, so I am swithing over the Brass. I liked the Alumilite as it is light and easy to work. But I will not take a chance at building another. Too much could go wrong in flight. Although considerably heavier, the brass won't break. Here are the pics:

andrew,
have you considered making the rudder control horn from fiberglass /graphite or that g-10 material
the reference photo you posted earlier looked like glass to me
the block shaping and sheeting look good/ im currently building a spitfie fuse and your work is inspiring

THank's for the kind words Art. I also made one out of straight Fiberglass resin, but decided not to use it. If the Alumilite broke, the fiberglass probably would also. Its not really any stronger than the Alumilite.

A piece of G10 would probably work as it is reinforced with fiberglass cloth inside. But, a metal rod going through G10 with stress and force on it can cause the G10 to eventually fail. As far as graphite goes, I simply have no experience with it so I cannot comment.

I used the same type of linkage on my TF GS Corsair in the ailerons. But instead of a brass horn, I was able to modify some nylon control horns. They are a pull-pull system, but with metal rods, not wire cable. There is no pulling force against the control horns in the ailerons like there is here. So, the nylon horns gave me liteness and strength without the worries. I would use a nylon horn here if I could modify one to give me the proper fit. But, I do not know of any that would, even after modifications.

If you have any pics of your spitfire, please feel free to post a couple here. I'd enjoy seeing it as I am connsidering a spitfire for my next bird.

Thanx Merlin. But alas it is not yet complete. but it is close to complete. Right now, I 'm waiting for the filler to dry before I go at it again. I am also contemplating on purchasing the robart large air tank as I think the medium that I have might be too little to run all the retracts plus the canopy. Any thoughts guys??

Yeah for the Robarts especially (they are air hounds, they just use too much!), you will want to go with the larger tank if you are going to use the canopy. Or two small ones, one for the retracts one for the canopy and what not. Are you going with the air up/spring downs or just the air?

Oh didn't see you had Sierra. They are much better with air than the Robarts, but with the canopy, better more air than not. I've seen too many gear up landings because something drained the tank too quickly.
