Guys - Just a quick update tonight. I've dry installed the flaps with their servos. At this point, I've installed all that I am going to until after paint. Next is that wonderful sanding exercise that I have to go through and then glass, sand, glass, sand, prime, sand, fill, sand, etc. etc etc. Panel lines and other details then paint.

FYI - I've now completely stripped the bird of all parts and have applied some filler. I've go to wait for it to dry before more sanding. THis is the longest part of any build.

Sanding is now pretty much done and I'm now glassing. I'm using a local brand of finishing resin plus Midwest hobbies .6 oz glass cloth. I'll take some pics when glassing is done.

Glassing slowly continues. The worst part of this step is that it takes about 12 hours for each layer of glass to completely cure. The wing has been glassed but needs a lot of sanding before I can even start a primer coat, fill and sanding again. I've started to glass the LE of the rudder and the fuse, I would say about 75% of the first layer of glass is done. I won't be able to finish the first fuse layer until tomorrow - again waiting for the glass to cure. Here are 2 pics. one of the rudder and the other of the fuse.

I've also glassed the flaps and am now in the process of sanding and priminng them.

Amidst Glassing the Fuse, I've started to Sand and Prime 1/2 of the top wing to find glassing imperfections. I don't think you will find a "How to Glass" showing you imperfections so here are some pics. I have found a large number of weave fill imperfections. I am unsure why. Perhaps it was my mixture of 1 part finishing resin to .5 parts micro balloons to .5 parts alcohol. Nevertheless, to fix this I'm going to apply another coat of straight finishing resin, but I'm going to squeegy (sp) it very tightly with a playing card so I do not add any real weight. Probably the Ace of Spades for luck . At least that is my hope.

After looking at the pics, you might wonder why I wet sanded instead of dry. It really bugs me how easily the sand paper clogs up with paint when you dry sand. I've found that wet sanding avoids this issue.

Here are the pics:

P.S. One other thought for those following this thread. I like to look for the imperfections outside in good sunlight. For me, indoor light just isn't good enough. Thnkfully, Oklahoma has many good days for this.

The glassing and sanding conntinues. Amidst all that, I've started covering the rudder and ailerons with coverite. I've also put some rivets on the rudder and primed the spinner and fan. Here are the pics.

4 more pics. If I don't go flying tomorrow, I hope to have half the wing finished with primer.

THe sanding and priming continues. Here the wing is in the middle of the process and the Fuse has received its first primer coat before any sanding.

I know its been awhile, between bad weather (no paintings days) and good days for flying, I haven't forgotten the FW-190. I've been working on it a little almost every day. I've got the fuse completely primed and ready for control surfaces and detailing (panel lines, rivets etc). The top of the wing is also ready.

For me, it is so important that the glassing to priming step be as perfect as possible. If you miss the imperfections here, then your paint jobs will only exagerate them. So, I try to get this step as perfect as possible. Here are some pics of the fuse after a very light wet sand with 220 grit.
