ORIGINAL: DAN REISS Hi Andrew, You mentioned during the build that you used the blue sheaths from Sullivan with steel pushrods. Where did you get the pushrods from and did you have to thread them with a die? I never had much luck soldering to steel. Did you have to do any? What technique did you use? Thanks, Dan. Good Morning Dan: I am away from home this week, reserve JAG duty in San Antonio, so I don't have the model in front of me to help remember how I did it. I believe that I used 48 inch steel 2-56 rod, threaded on one end. The threaded side got a clevis which connected to the rudder. First I had to add some length to the rod. To do this, I inserted the rod through the blue sheath of the Sullivan Golden rod previously installed, added the rudder side clevis and measured the difference between where the rod ended to the servo with a clevis installed on the servo. Removed the rod, cut a fully threaded 2-56 rod to the right length to make up the difference. Next I cut some brass tubing which had a close enough inside diameter to snuggly accept the 2-56 rods, about 2 inches total length. WHen cut, both rods would go in about 1 inch. Sanded the ends of the rods with some 220 grit. Dripped some silver solder liquid resin (available at you local hobby store or any good hardware store like Ace Westlake, Lowes or Home Depot) on the inside of the brass tubing and the ends of the 2 2-56 rods. Waited about 10 minutes to let the resin do its job, then silver soldered with a small propane torch. Installed the rod. I did this twice to get the push-pull system, (i.e. 2 rods on the rudder). It worked. Hope this explains what I did fairly well and thanx for the question.
