Good news: I was able to fix the flexing (springy) rudder issue today without having to take the connections outside of the fuse. I made some extended 2-56 rod which actually made it through the "S" curve within the blue line (after pulling out the internal yellow sheath. Made the clevis connnections, cinched it all up and it is now almost rock solid throughout all of the rudder travel. I haven't confirmed it yet, but I am sure that I'll have to check and adjust the CG again, but I'll be able to live with this.

Hi Andrew, You mentioned during the build that you used the blue sheaths from Sullivan with steel pushrods. Where did you get the pushrods from and did you have to thread them with a die? I never had much luck soldering to steel. Did you have to do any? What technique did you use? Thanks, Dan.

Good Morning Dan:

I am away from home this week, reserve JAG duty in San Antonio, so I don't have the model in front of me to help remember how I did it. I believe that I used 48 inch steel 2-56 rod, threaded on one end. The threaded side got a clevis which connected to the rudder.

First I had to add some length to the rod. To do this, I inserted the rod through the blue sheath of the Sullivan Golden rod previously installed, added the rudder side clevis and measured the difference between where the rod ended to the servo with a clevis installed on the servo. Removed the rod, cut a fully threaded 2-56 rod to the right length to make up the difference. Next I cut some brass tubing which had a close enough inside diameter to snuggly accept the 2-56 rods, about 2 inches total length. WHen cut, both rods would go in about 1 inch. Sanded the ends of the rods with some 220 grit. Dripped some silver solder liquid resin (available at you local hobby store or any good hardware store like Ace Westlake, Lowes or Home Depot) on the inside of the brass tubing and the ends of the 2 2-56 rods. Waited about 10 minutes to let the resin do its job, then silver soldered with a small propane torch. Installed the rod.

I did this twice to get the push-pull system, (i.e. 2 rods on the rudder). It worked.

Hope this explains what I did fairly well and thanx for the question.

Thanks Andrew for the great description. I will give it a try. Where did you find the 48 inch rod with the 2-56 threaded end? Dan.

Hi Dan, I got it at a local Hobby Shop called "The Realm of Hobbies" in Moore, Oklahoma, Just South of Oklahoma City.

Hi All, just browsed upon this thread. I too am building a Vailly Fw 190. There is also a build thread on the sister site - Scalebuilder. If I am able help, feel free to ask. I'm sure we can 'bounce ' ideas of each other.
1st question, have you decided on a pilot figure , if so what is the price and quality like.
Thanks
Keith

Hi Keith and welcome. I have decided not to put in a pilot. My total weight is around 40lbs and adding a pilot will easily require more nose weight. I don't want that. What engine do you plan to put in?

Hi Ironmanx and all following this thread.
Hi guys i am still following this thread i wonder if someone can help me with photographs of a Sierra retract side support arm for a FW190. I am not far of taxi tests with my TA152 and because of the weight of my aircraft i have to modify my retracts with this side support arm.
My aircraft is 40 plus Pounds and the retracts i have do not have this arm like the Sierra's. I have looked at Sierra's web-site but i cannot work out how it locks down and retracts again from the photograph.
Could someone do me a great big favour and take some shots of the way the side support arm works and post them so i can modify my own.
It would be really appreciated and would save me a lot of experimenting with the set up.
Thanks in advance.
Dave.

Hi Andrew, I will be using a Zenoah 62 in my 190. I'm hoping that the finished model to be around the 30lb mark. Please don't ask what it weighs at the moment, as I'm detailing the wings at present and the u/c is not yet installed. The fus. is all but done apart from fitting out the office, and plumbing the fuel system.
