Has anyone put a zenoha G20 in one of these planes. I have put together the plane and insalled the G20 engine. I was checking the CG and I have to add 11 oz of weight in front of the rudder servo. Is this going to over stess the fuselage or create to much wing load.

Thanks fo any advice.

I cannot answer your questions directly. There is a long thread on this plane in the ARF or RTF forum. There is discussion about the CG on page 19. Many folks think 5" is too far back. If your manual shows a 5" CG, you might consider moving it forward to 4.5" or 4.25". That would reduce the amount of lead in the the tail. Here is a link to that page in the ARF or RTF forum

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_1141201/mpage_19/key_corsair/tm.htm

Also I cut a hatch in the fuse of my H9 Corsair as close to the tail end as I could and put a couple of ounces there (lead shot mixed with epoxy). This is farther back than the elevator servo so that will reduce the required weight.

I have the plane balanced on the money per instructions with the Saito 100 up front, which is the engine recommended for this plane. Bird flies with good power, which is probably adequate for many, considering that I like to see my warbirds buzz the runway at over 100mph. The G20 is quite a bit more weight than saito 100 so you're adding quite a bit of wing loading, may affect your landing a bit. Plane lands very nicely with saito 100 and light wing loading. That's my 2 cents.

Well I finally test flew the Corsair. I moved the weight all the way to the rear for the plain. I drop the weight form 11oz at the rudder servo to 6.3oz at the tail. The plain took off the ground at 1/8 throttle but was squirrly as hell. All it wanted to do was climb. I set the CG at 5 inches from the leading edge. Almost a crash on the first flight. I should of check the post before I flew the plane. Is the CG 4 5/16 from the leading edge. The G20 is one heck of a engine, 3 flips of the prop and it's running.

Congratulations on a first flight. Looks like you had the kind of excitement we can do without. How much does your Corsair weigh with the G-20??

After pulling the engine off and glassing the firewall and resetting the balance on the plane. It's total weight was 10.0.8oz . My scale measures in tenths of an ounce up to 30 lbs. I set the CG at 4 1/4 from the leading edge. I had to add 3.2 oz of weight in the tail. I'm also rechecking the retracks as per the forum. I have modified them already by replacing the 2-56 rods from the servo to the bell crank with 4-40 rods with a carbon fiber sleave epoxyed on the rod and added heavy duty ball style clevises to the bell crank. When I got the plane the bell crank pivet sleeves were seized and would not rotate on the sleeve. I'm going to try and fly it over the next few days weather permitting.

Yes I have flow the corsair a few times. I left the weight taped in the back of the tail until I was satisfied with the way it flew. The end result was 2.9 oz of weight in the very end of the tail. It flys great from a full tank of fuel to an empty tank. The plane has great power and flys very smooth. I going to shim the retrack forward slightly for a little more prodictable landings between asphalt and grass.

ftimburgia,

Can you post some pictures of the G20ei engine fit in the corsair? I really wanted to fit this warbird with the gas engine, but the power/weight agains the Saito's almost makes it seem to not be worth it. What's your opinion?

Thanks
Wayne

I'll try and get some pictures of the engine with the cowl on and off. As to your question of the saito or the G20. The saito would probably fly the plane great with good power. I did not want the mess of glow fuel with this plane and gas is alot cheaper than glow fuel. This plane does get alot of looks at the field when it's flying. I have to pull the cowl off tonight anyway due to a brain fade during landing. I have to due a little paint work on the cowl.

Sorry it took so long to get the pictures. The plane is starting to get some wear on it now.

It's tight, there no dought about that. I have to unbolt the carb and exhaust to slide the cowl on and then move the cowl to one side to put the exhaust bolts in. Once the exhaust is on, I can bolt the carb up. It took me about 10 hours to cut the cowl to fit. The plane fly's great with excellent power. I do know if it was really worth it. But it get alot of looks at the flying field. I cut holes so everything can be adjusted if needed. I have no heat probelms with the engine because the cowl is bigger than the body of the plane so it has breat air flow.

My Hanger 9 Corsair made 6th place out of 20th at the Mint Julep scale meet in Kentucky. The plane flys great with an Sato 91 4 stroke. The landing gear as always was problematic, I have two Corsair's and I will replace the gear with Centry Jet as soon as posable. My second Corsair has a G20e installed and flys great even though it is 2lb more. The 2lb is not only from the engine and battery but this plane has Flaps and two addtional servos.

Both planes will be back at the Mint Julep next year.

I have had many problems with the landing gear. Not a very good design. I am glade to here you did well with your planes. How does your G20 run. I have had a lot of carb problems with mine. One day it runs great and the next time you take it out it runs like crap. I am thinking of getting rid of it. I may put an os 91 four stroke in it.
