What prop(s) run well on the SJ50 for all around use?
I have:
8.8 x 8.75
8.8 x 9
8.75 x 9W
9 x 7
9 x 8

What props might be better suited for what type of application?

Thanks.
Bill

Hi Bob,
I figured id just add a related question to this thread. I have a BSE .50 and wanted to know if the engine can handle a 9X9 APC prop.

Thanks alot.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay...

You can use a 9x9 on the BSE-50, but it depends on the aircraft.....

Engine/prop/airframe are a combination that has to be balanced.

If the airframe is quick, and will allow the engine to unload easily in flight.... then yes, you can use the 9x9. Something like a Q-500 design, perhaps a diamond dust or similar fast delta, or a Magnum --- perhaps ok. A few have tried the prop on larger planes like the Patriot and smaller pattern ships..... mixed results.

Key there, still, is making sure you properly needle the engine ---- it will not peak at rpm quite the same. Always error on the rich side a bit ---- fly ---- lean out just a bit more if needed the next time. Keep note of the ground rpm you see. Alway back off 600-800 rpm from the ground peak rpm.

Keep in mind, the 9x9 will lug down the engine ---- do not expect it to be faster than a 9x8 in most applications.

Tell me a bit about the airplane you are powering with the BSE-50 ?

The engine is in a Phoneix F 20 tiger shark. I started with a 10x6. Than i went to a 9x8 and noticed a big increase in speed. I was just curious if a 9x9 would be even faster. What do you think the best prop would be?
Thanks alot

Give the 9x9 a try.... worth a shot. Just be careful not to get the engine hot.

My guess is that with the fixed gear, the 9x8 is about as good as it is going to get.
