Your project looks great.

I have one technical question. Why do you CNC a plug, as oppossed to the mold. I have seen others do this as well and I am puzzled why not straight to the mold?

You can make multiple molds off a single plug, if you make a mold thats all you got.

I understand, I assume this is if you are manufacturing as opposed to personal use, however I do see some guys cutting aluminum molds for the purpose of manufacturing.

What material do you use to cnc the plug it looks like a plastic of sorts.

I am only asking because I am curious about the various techniques used, I am currently making a Q500 fuse and V tail plug using traditional methods (by hand) but only for personal use.

The aluminum molds are very good, but milling aluminum mold has a very high cost......Aluminum is very expensive and it takes a long time for the milling mold.
This material I used is very cheaper and very fast milled...........It is a material-specific modeling prototypes (i dont know the name)
To build molds airmodel this technique is most excellent and that at the same time is cheaper
I had great teachers: the Germans .......and I have followed this forum http://www.rc-network.de/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=56
I used a similar technique to construct a wing of a F3D but in this case I used a different material(A little more expensive)..."Methacrylate "in this case I polished only . http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4594549/tm.htm

Ciao Paolo

Hi Paolo

Which threads in the RC-Network forum provided you with the most information on the plug material.
