by the way.....when running electric.....can you safely run a hump pack on the battery port of the RX unit, or do you have to leave it open and just run with the 5V coming from the ESC?

i ran a cc bec for the rx so i wont be robbing any power from the esc, you can run it with a hump pack but you need to take out the wire that is feeding the power to the rx

Got a response from Traxxas.

The E-Revo ESC has *no* brushless capabilities.

I have figured out my cooling fan/receiver glitching problem. The Novak fan I used puts voltage spikes into the electrical sytem. On my oscilloscope I found 60 mV spikes every time the motor phase changed. It threw the receiver for a loop. I scavenged an old computer for its cooling fan and could not measure any voltage spikes at all. I tried it out and no glitches at all. So not all fans are created equal. I thought it was radiated emissions causing the problem, it turned out to be conducted emissions right into the electrical system of the truck.

are there any CC BEC's that'll run 6V instead of 5V? after all, 6V = more power for steering

The bec is programmable with the castle link. On the website is says the servo connectors are not rated for more than 5a, so you might need to replace them.
From the website:
-Output 5.1 volts out of the package, user may set output voltage from 4.8 to 9 using the Castle Link (sold separately).

BJM - That is a weird problem. I've never even heard of some of those words.

castle link the USB setup or with some other funky connection setup I'd need to find?

I think you need the castle link. Look on their website for yourself - www.castlecreations.com/products/cc_bec.html

well, it's done, I've converted my Savvy to brushless, using an Align BL600L motor (6 pole 1620kv up to 1500W "inrunner style outrunner"

just have to figure out how I'm going to make battery mounts, and if I'm going to stretch it any or not, as well as fixing the transmission, not having brakes sucks a lot....

also, with that, should I be looking at setting the ESC to forward only so that the brakes don't throw the motor into running backwards?

as tested (just velcro strapped a pair of 6 cell stick packs to the hips of the truck and went and ran it a bit) it's zippy, kept gearing the same as it was with the LRP, and it's equally snappy, considering at the moment I have a hunch I've got the transmission stuck in 3rd gear.... no wheelies, which probably comes from being in 3rd gear all the time, but, it's certainly got some grunt, and is MUCH more agile than before.

now, I'm just battery shopping......anyone know of killer deals on 3S lipo packs?

well, here's pics, I'd typed up a bit on what else was coming for the truck, but, since I closed the browser on accident, I'm just gonna put the pics up lol.

there's the mount and the motor (which takes up almost all of the space that the LRP .28 was taking up)

I'll take some better pics tomorrow and post them showing off the rest of what the truck's setup as, and hopefully as soon as we get the chance, we'll have video of how sickeningly quick it is already.....and I still don't have the transmission working properly, either stuck in 2nd or 3rd, and I can't really tell which.

I wonder if you could get a smaller spur and pinion, and move the motor lower so the center of gravity would be much better.... Look how it was done as mine, tex's, etc.

I actually went above to keep the center of gravity centered side to side, without going to the 20T that's on it, running with the 12 cell nimh, I'm not getting anywhere near what the truck was getting for speed with the original NS-25 motor, and even with an 11T pinion (and that's only a 48T spur, can only lose 1 tooth there and that's not gonna make much size difference) the motor itself is too wide to set down below where you guys set yours, that's where I'd originally wanted to set it, but, couldn't make that happen unfortunately. all in all, I like the way it handles where it's at, and didn't really hurt the CG it actually handles tighter corners better than it did when it was nitro, because while there's weight higher, it's also much more centered side to side.

go bigger on the spur & you will get more pinion choices.. what is the rest of your combo?? esc & batteries?? My conversion on 12 cells is pretty much the same as the s25 powered savage i had before.. I think you said your running a 20tooth pinion if so it seems overgeared to me especially if you are running the 3 speed..I have mine locked in 2nd & im only running 15t pinion if i remember right with the stock savage x spur..

hi

looks cool. what are the specs of that motor? what esc? what batteries?
i wouldn't take too much car of the cg either. after all its monster truck and not a racer.
i've always looked the transmission in 1st gear. there are so many gearing options with spur (47-53t) and pinion (9-25t).
i did it with such a gearshaft.

bye
