Not as much torque with the 7XL, we picked the 8XL for it's torque and voltage I'm running. The Savage is heavy and we don't want to go too low on turns so the 8xl is as low turn as I'd go with 8th scale.

thanks for the info, i've contemplated this for a long time now and see as to how you've managed to make your own motor mount with ease, I will convert as soon as I can afford it. I curious to see how you will mount the batteries. It's looking real nice. by the way, what did you use to make your motor mount? (materials, tools, ect.)

If you were using a 5S Lipo you could get the 12XL and just be insane.

thanks for your help, it's really cool that you take the time to explain things. i realy apreciate it as i find it hard to get specific advice. I can't wait to see the video, i'm sure your truck will tear it up

I made up some brick packs to power the Savage, I will mount them on either side of the motor bay. I plan to use the rest of the angle stock to make brackets for that.

what kind of ESC are you using? it seems like you would need a pretty pricey one to use 14cells.

Here it is hooked up and ready for testing. I did test it with a 7.2V pack and it works well. I still have to set up the esc correctly and I'm waiting for my ubec to be delivered.

Now if I can just find my spray cleaner to clear out the tranny.

What does UBEC stand for?

ok, so here's the only thing I'm not following.....how're you controlling throttle/brakes? is that what the ESC does in the place of the throttle servo or what? (I can see how you'd get the throttle working, but, what about the brakes?)

dhyde79, the ESC controls the throttle, and reverse in some cases too (if it is fitted with reverse). Electric cars don't have brakes, as the motors slow down the car very quickly.

ok, so the motor acts as brake, reverse, and throttle all at once then? (except for on a savage, in which the reverse will still be at the reverse module in the transmission due to transmission design)

good to know, if I can shave a bit of weight I might just go that route, I'm not enthused by the idea of electric though, I went nitro for the run time potential.....

hmm...you know this brings up a good point. how would the struck stop if the spur spins in reverse freely? as i remember the transmission is forward only and the spur will still spin freely in reverse when the truck is sitting still.

By leaving the throttle/brake servo intact and functioning as normal. You can set the ESC and brushless motor to not have any brake when applied...so your stock setup does it for you.

And you can always use the Reverse mixer where you hold the transmitter brake for like 3secs and the reverse module engages.

ah... i see what your saying. so then you would use the receiver with the throt/brake servos as well as the ESC. silly me i fogot about the receiver thats pretty cool.

...or a 3 channel radio and just use the reverse switch.....

with the transmission setup on the savage as it is, I'm not following how the brakes will actually function since we've just pointed out that slowing the motor won't necessarily slow the truck......(think about it, if your engine dies while running, your truck doesn't lock the brakes and slide to a stop)
