Hi guys. I'm ready to upgrade to a high quality Li-Po balancing charger.

I'm now leaning towards at least a 6 cell Li-Po balancing charger (just in case I ever upgrade to a 600 class heli ;-).

What are your opinions?

I'm looking at:

2-6 cell- Hyperion EOS 0610i 6S 10A Balancing Charger and the
2-10 cell- Thunder Power 1010C Lithium Charger and TP-210V Lithium Balancer Combo

ANY other recommendations??? I'm also interested in the new A123 batteries but don't see too many chargers for them. I have several 12V power supplies so that's not an issue.

I had hoped to get a combined charger/balancer however if the Thunder Power setup is the best then that might be the ticket.

Thanks for your help.

you might check out the cellpro from www.fmadirect.com that's a good charger that would satisfy what you are looking for now. Honestly that's probably the route I would go just because the price difference from going from a 4 or 5s charger to a 6s charger can be pretty substantial, especially if you don't really have a need for it. FMA also has a 6s charger that will do a123's as well (both chargers they have charge all lithium chemistries) that's about 105 bucks.

It all just depends on what your budget is, and what features you like out of a charger. If you really want to go with a 6s lipo charger you may also check this one out. It charges all other chemistires as well and will charge/balance up to 6s
http://www.lipostuff.com/Bantam_e_Station_BC_6_LiPo_Balancing_Charger_p/btbc6.htm

either of those chargers will also work just depending on the features you are after =)

Check into the eStation BC-6 or eStation BC-8. More than likely you will never outgrow the BC-8.

Thanks mrasmm and RC Accessory. (mrasmm, I think you asked what my budget was in the E-Flite power source group)

The Cellpro would have been my 1st choice but I've been bitten by the helicopter bug so bad that I "might" want a 600 size heli later on and they require 6 cell batteries. That's why I'm now leaning towards the e Station BC-6 so I can charge 6 cell packs.

When I ran trucks and raced 1/10 scale cars in the 80's & 90's I upgraded chargers several times and was hoping to not have to do that this time. Last high end charger was a Competition Electronics Turbocharger. Anyone remember those?

I don't mind spending $100-200 if the charger is exceptional and has built in balancing for Li-Po's. I don't think I'd go over $200 this time. My question now is how good/popular do you think the new A123 batteries will be? They are interesting in that they have much longer runtimes and shorter charge time.

I don't think the e-Station will do A123's

lol, so I did =) it's hard to keep track of all the people I help out

the bc6 does do a123's, they are also known as LiFe, check here
http://www.rcaccessory.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=241

a123's will probably come out quite a bit in the future would be my guess

Thanks again.

I will keep looking at the chargers until I really need one (Blade 400 won't be out for several more weeks) and hopefully I'll make the right decision.

I'm now contemplating buying a Walkera 4#3 Heli to learn/practice fixed pitch flying in a small space during the winter. Maybe there will be some new/improved chargers by spring and I should just use the stock E-flite ones for now.

Get the new CellPro when it comes out, I doubt you would out grow that one.

Mike,

I just saw a post on that yesterday. I will definitely check it out when it's released. If it has built-in balancing I'll probably buy it.

I does have built in balancing, just like the CellPro 4S that is so popular.

Thanks again Red.

I hope it's out on schedule. I'll have my Blade 400 in a few weeks (or so they say ;-)

When you go up to 600 class and use 6S lipo, you better get one with 150W of power like the BC8, otherwise you will be frustrated. The BC6 is only 50W, which means you can only charge your 6S pack @2A.

I dunno for sure, and maybe you can tell me, but I think that is only if you use the internal a/c to d/c power converter. If you use an external DC source that can supply more power, can the charger do more than 50w?

The BC-6 is 50W on AC or DC.

Hi guys. I'm ready to upgrade to a high quality Li-Po balancing charger.

Then the choce is quite simple, the German Schulze next 10.36-12, which can handle up to 12s LiPo cells using the integrated balancer. Additionally it can handle up to 36 NiCd/NimH cells on two individual outputs, that can handle charge currents of 10A and 5A respectively!

Of course it has all the usual bells and whistles such as USB PC interface, a big graphical LCD display and software that can be upgraded by the user.
