Hello Guys,

I have been working with Dualsky as well as some of you from these forums. Currently Dualsky has suspended production of the Xm63 series motors to address these issues. They are consulting with the manufacturer and other international motor companies to produce a iindustry leading F3A motor! I will get you updates when available. I do Not have a specific date and do apologize for any inconvenience.

I've got 290 flights on my Dualsky so I'm not complaining. However, if I can make some suggestions, here goes. Get rid of the pin/hole in the shaft. Retain the rotor/shaft with an c-ring like Hacker does and use a Hacker type collet/spacer that presses against the inner race of the front bearing. Keep the threaded axial hole in the shaft so a spinner adapter nut is not required. Keep the weight down and strength up. Titanium? Carbon? Probably need some radii in the corners.

Include a rear bearing and mount for those that front mount the motor. Rear bearing support is mandatory for a front mounted outrunner.

Heavier gauge wiring.

Very good point Steve. Let the shaft stick out of the can about .25 inches so we can put a rear support bearing on it. That would save the weight of the prop adapter I use now.

More power? Have you tried the 11T? It should allow more power but I never tried it as I didn't want to pull my poor old batteries down. With these new low resistance batteries it should be okay to pull 70+ amps. Not sure the motor can handle it but it may be worth the try. They claim 2450 Watts. 35 volts times 70 Amps equals 2450. I'm down around 60 Amps or less. Might be an easy way to get a 10% increase in power.

If I could swing the same prop range (20x15, 21x14) at a higher rpm such that I got a peak of about 2900 watts

then you'd see a very happy camper. That would be a peak of about 85 amps or so. Seems that the newer batts can provide the juice required. I think right now I am like you, around 65 amps with the 20x15 on the 12T so I am running between 2200 and 2300 watts. Add about 700 watts to that and I figure that would give a definite power edge over the new ys cdi.

I don't want to swing a bigger prop, as I think the 20" is good all around for aerobatics. I might be talked into going with a smaller diameter 4 blade or 3 blade in order to get the proper load, but I don't want too huge of a disk swinging up front. On my big DA-150 planes, I like the 3 blade rather than the larger 2 blade. I think it tracks better and snaps truer. I imagine the same would hold true on the 2M ships.

Here's another. Use BETTER bearings. All but two DualSkys I've seen were very noisy due to the bad (stock) bearings, in fact, many of them were louder than a YS powered plane!

I've had great luck with the VXB ceramic bearings. Much better performance overall and they have been very quiet and consistent. They should be able to switch to something like that with no problem.

Is Dualsky giving any indication of the lead time for version #2. I applaud their proactive approach to a known problem. It will be interesting to see the developments that they take. I would suspect that the new version will have a fair price increase with it. Thanks, Mike

I don't think, we or DS should rush.. I'd rather get a better product.. And I also applaud DS for doing this, and Mark for letting us know. Most companies wouldn't do that. They'd change design, but continue to sell them at the same time.
I agree with Steve, his bearings do work fine and his is quiet.. Also, the support idea like the Hacker is great.. It's really the way it should be.. More power? Well, the 4 11T's that I went through had plenty IMO.. Not sure I would want more.

This does suck though, I am now left scrambling for a new motor for the nats that I will like as much as the 11T, but I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

I would also like to join the others in applauding Dualsky's proactive approach. I think this is rather unprecedented. I don't recall seeing a manufacturer actively discuss issues with the users, quickly embark on an improvement program, and stop making the old product before the alternative is available. I'm like Chris, I'll happily wait a bit for the product. The 63 series motors were pretty good and I like mine, but knowing that there may be a better one coming is really good news.

I do want more power, however.

After all, that F-09 sequence takes some real grunt and I'd like to be able to have enough reserve power so I don't have to fly WOT for most of it. I haven't tried the 11T, but it would really need to have a dramatic increase over the 12T in order to give what is needed.

Chris, I have a backup 11T you are welcome to borrow for the Nats. It has performed flawlessly for me as well as Terry Walker and Bruce Thompson when they borrowed it.
