Well, I maidened my Tango today. Perfect conditions. Wow! What a fun plane. It's what I call a "stick banger". Doesn't really fly very "pure" at all. But start banging the sticks and it goes wild. I did the best flat spins I've ever seen today. Upright it would spin so fast it was amazing. It would stop and just sit there spinning in the length of itself. Wouldn't go up or down. Just stay there level and spin at a very fast rate. I think I could have just sat there spining for the whole fuel tank if I wanted to. It was fun...and looked pretty darn cool.

KE flight is almost impossible with this plane. And I couldn't do waterfalls well either. Mostly it just jumps around with any stick input. My would be called "twitchy" for sure. But yet very fun to fly. The YS63 ran absolutly flawless. It seemed to have an extreme amount of power. Just clugged along great.

After what I've been flying this plane seemed hard to land. Almost any breeze would move it around a bit. I reduced the rates on everything to 20% and that seemed to help a lot. I only got in two flights but they were pretty long and I tried everything I could think of.

I'm pretty impressed with the "funness" of this airplane. But it certainily isn't 2nd plane material. I'd say a 3rd or 4th plane would be more like it. I did a "hand launch" with it the second flight. That was pretty cool.

The roll rate on this plane is pretty amaizing also. Spins so fast you can't count the rolls.

Overall I'm mildly impressed with this plane. It truly is fun to fly. It seemed to hold up well for all the stunts I did with it also. I think it will be durable. I'll use this plane to enjoy a few flights before I fly my big stuff...and just for pure delight.

Thanks
Barry

I thinking of a Tango 40 or Showtime 50. I was wondering which will impress the crowd more with the different types of aerobatics it they can do?

LOL...

I always thought the pilot was the one that impressed the crowd with whatever type aircraft he/she was pushing around...

I've seen average pilots fly magnificent airframes and the performance was, average. I've seen great pilots fly trainer's, cubs and the like and make them perform magnificently.

When I was a kid, I used to think, if only I could have a Fender Stratocaster, man could I play guitar better. Never did learn to play better but I sure wasted a ton of $$ on impressive equipment. I looked great but sounded like crap, LOL....

The TANGO can make any pilot look like a hot dog but only a real hot dog can get the TANGO or any ither airplane to perform.

What I think you meant was to ask, which of the two airframes will enable a good pilot to wring it out in the best way, to give a crowd a good show...

Am I mistaken?

:-)

Yes, what I meant to say is I know the Showtime 50 is a very capable aerobatic model. What type of moves can the Tango 40 pull off over the Showtime 50 in the hands of a capable pilot or does the Showtime 50 ace it in every way?

The Showtime is a much more precise model than the Tango. It does the regular style of aerobatics way better. I'm talking about the pattern & IMAC type manouvers. It can also do knife edge flight which is extremely difficult on the Tango. This helps when doing things like slow or 4 - 8 point rolls.

The Tango is a fun model but is very eratic and super twitchy. It can be flicked around so hard and fast that it has that wow factor and is impressive to see but those manouvers aren't as difficult to master as the proper aerobatics.

Real aerobatics look kinda boring until you try and learn it for yourself and realise just how difficult it is and how much skill it needs to make it look like so easy and graceful.

I have a Tango that i bought for the specific purpose of entering my club's "world series fun fly" competition. The Tango performs well for those tasks but doesn't really do anything else well so i'm kind of "off" it now. I only pull it out for the fun fly days.

P.S. Is the Showtime 50 available in Aus Now?

CustomPC I think the bigger version is as its on the model flight website. I wonder why they wouldn't bring the 50 sized one in? I will email Model Flight now.

Which one would you say is easier to fly and handle, CustomPC: The Tango, or the Showtime? Which one is more forgiving?

I have not flown the Showtime but one of my clubmates flies the larger one and says it flies well.

Barry's post #126 describes the Tango's characteristics very well. The Showtime would be a much easier model to fly.

OK you Tango Dancers, try this.

Pull to straight up and hit inverted snap roll controls. Both sticks full forward and together.

I have done this several times, I get a couple of quick inverted snap rolls, then a slower, circling climb. Sort of looks like a rolling harrier climb. Just hold on to the inverted snap controls. I am using full throw on every control, 45+ degrees travel.

I've tried it starting at about 15 feet, half power. Pop to vertical, then full everything. I have held on and had the Tango climb like this to 400+ feet, drifting down wind.

I've been running a 12-4 on my .55, but only because I didn't have an extra 12.25-3.75. They were both on Sticks. The plane has been so much fun I have been leery of changing anything. I was thinking of a 13-4 or even a 12-6 for more air blast over the tail, but, like you said, it's so darn much fun, I'm not touching it.

I may order a second one to keep in reserve.

Been flying mine at the local club, too many flights to count. Well, I have a little problem with the gas tank cap. The last 5 flights or so resulted in some dead sticks. Upon inspection, I noticed it was a bit wet in the fuse. So, taking out the tank I ended up with a fuel cap in pieces. Time to go to work with some silicon rubber, that and a new cap should fix it.

Meanwhile on the dead sticks: Some guys were impressed with my Tango's agility. And of course the way I would float that thing in whenever the engine died. Well, one guy called it a "flip-flop plane". And he dared to say that "it ain't gonna develop your skills, son". But honestly, they should at least give me some credit for making such a nimble machine look so much like a trainer. I often wondered if I should just hand the transmitter to one of the instructors and tell 'em to break in a newbie (read: intro flight )!

Well, my Rapture 40 is all set to go, back to work, after those nasty repairs on the wing, prop, spinner, and landing gear. Meanwhile, my Tango awaits a new gas cap. The peanut gallery shall live in harmony and peace, my low-wing "trainer" shall be there to appease the gods. Until IT and those wickedly weathered orange and blue stripes comes back from the pits of Hell! Bua ha ha ha ha ha....

Nice to see this about the Tango. I needed a Florida Gators plane and this one has the right colors. I expect the Tango decal on the wing will read Tebow and the Tangos on the sides will look like Gators. I think I can get a UF on the tail and a big Gator on the bottom of the wing. Power? I will try to get a helicoil in the head of my Satio 91 or maybe liberate a 46 FX from another plane. Doc - Father of 3 Lady Gators!
