Yes I've considered and still looking at gaui hurricane but as good as the price and value it is I still can't even squeeze a good helicopter out with my budget. It'd be a great airframe with a bunch of sub par electronics. The hurricane still leans closer to a .50 size then .30 and that's too big for me right now.

Gaui has released the ep425 which is relative size to t-rex 500 but uses the same head as hurricane 550 making it heavier than it has to be. I like waiting for this heli because it uses a light single plate chassis on either side with a plastic head and metal matter rotor housing. Seems like it'll be more ridged and lighter than others out there, while easier to work on with simplified parts. I plan to look at making carbon fibre plates for the frame once I have it in hand.

Ok i wana get this straight. in gassers the number is diffrent but in an electric its the motor size. im guessing a 600 is like a .60gas and a 500 is like a .30gas, am i right?

maybe they're waiting till they have produced electronics especially for this heli. This gyro has surfaced in the last 7 days but has yet to be placed on their website.

This tread started in 11/07 and still no 550E. Why not just go the Esky E Smart, bigger, tested, and you can have it Right Now????>>> I'm sold on mine. Mike

i think for me the e smart would just be too big and i would not be able to take it to the local park to fly due to its size.
would a Futaba 6EX 2.4Ghz 6ch run a esmart or would a 7ch radio be needed.

A 6 channel will be fine on all electrics. On a nitro some people need the 7 channel for a govenor.

Only time you reallly need a 7th channel on electric heli is if you want to run a retract kit or lights (or even a camera setup)from the receiver. for anyone just flying for general purpose sport or 3D 6ch is always the case.

cheers

the flight time wouldn't be long and you'd have to limit what your doing. A pack like that would be best used to practice hovering and maybe a little FFF. It's also going to depend what the RTF weight of the heli's going to be.

The C rating of a battery that size will probably need to be taken into acount as well. 500 sized heli motors usually draw around 40-50 amps max so you'll want to be sure the battery can handle it. It's always best to overshoot the rating just a bit as the manufactureres don't always give you a "true" C rating. I'd want to have at least mininum true 20C with a battery that size
