Your engine is probably running bad since it doesn't get all the compression and then you keep it up by increasing the fuel amount so it still has something to explode with.

Also I don't know about the bearings, I've never taken apart my engine :P

K223 you can test for leaks by spraying nitro blast into the carb area. If the engine dies when you spray it in the carb area you have a leak. Your symptons dont sound like a leak however because leaks would cause it to run lean. I had a similar problem, my engine all of a sudden one day started to act weird. No power at all. It would fire up fine, and idle fine but the moment I gave it throttle it would die as if it is too rich. So I kept leaning and leaning to the point where it was only 1 turn out both top and bottom to get it to run, even at this there was fuel spitting out! So, I called AE and they told me to bring in the truck. This was when they had my truck for week trying to figure out what the problem was. They rebuilt engine, new carb, whole new engine and same problem. They then put a whole new pipe in and it worked fine! So they cut my existing pipe out and saw that a piece had came loose and was lodged into the pipe opening.

I decided to get all the AE RC10 electric vehicles since a new indoor offroad tracks just opened up in the neighborhood. Its too hot now a days to run outdoor nitros, Im going to retire my MGT 8 for a few months so I can play with my three AE RC10's.

The only thing I have done was install the Option Pipe and before this the truck was running great! It did die on me the last time I had it out as I said, and figured it was out of fuel but was not. So I just wrote it off as a stall or whatever.

I still question why I have fuel blowing out the front of the crankcase, unless it's just buildup in the crankcase because my motor is either not burning it all and it's building up, or the new pipe is just not functioning correctly. It is almost like if I was getting way to much back pressure going up the fuel pressure line into the tank and causing too much fuel to blow through the carb.

I feel like I may be the guinea pig in the real world for this new pipe. Would not be the first time AE released something and to later find out it's not produced correctly or I have to adjust something else so it works correctly.

Well I am just going to call AE on Monday and let them know what happened and see what they say. Hard to beleive I go from a great running truck to a pig that can barely run and the only thing I have done is install the option pipe. If I get a chance I may reinstall the stock pipe and see if this corrects the problem and then I will know right away. Just not sure if I will have time by this weekend.

So your saying spray the Nitro clean in the carb while running and if it quits running I have a leak? Will these motors even run on this stuff when sprayed in?

I agree it's so hot down here, that to be outside during the day does cause you to bake. It was much nicer in the cooler months. I used to race some years ago at an indoor carpet track and it was great during the summer.

No dont spray nitro blast into the carb... all you do is fire up the truck like normal and let it idle, then spray nitro blast around the carb's exterior at the base, if the engine dies it is somehow sucking in that nitro blast (leak).

Yeah I gotcha....Duh makes sense now...Like spraying carb cleaner around the intake of a gas engine and seeing if it run's better or worse while doing it. It does appear to be blowing it out the front between the bearing and flywheel. Not sure if this is a case of the motor just running super rich and getting some type of back pressure from the new pipe through the fuel system, like over pressurization or something along those lines.

I am curious to here what AE has to say tomorrow....Either they will be dumb founded or know right off the bat of a problem with the new pipe setup....That's how it is half the time.

Thanks

I called AE today and spoke with someone over there regarding my tuned pipe install on the 8.0 and the lack of power, how super rich things are running etc. He just basically said to reset my needles back to the factory setting and go from there. I told him I am a little leaner already form those and spitting out fuel through the exhaust....I do not think going back to richer settings will help anything. So he just said to keeping leaning out the high speed and go from there. He did not really have any answers other than this and has no feedback with anyone else that might have called who installed the tuned pipe. I doubt many people have got there hands on one to do it.

Hard to beleive and based on what I hear about others on different vehicles who upgraded there pipes, that I can be so off by just chaning my pipe. I guess I have no choice but to try to lean things out, monitor my engine temp and see if it comes around.

Besides the motor I guess breathing better and maybe expelling some of the intake charge faster as well with the new pipe on....I can only wonder how this would effect the tune of the motor this drastically. From being dialed in perfectly with my stock pipe to starting from square one spitting rich with the Hi po pipe. Hard to beleive...But guess I will have to experiment.

K223,

Have you put your stock pipe back in and make sure it works with the settings you have right now to begin with? I would think that will be the first thing you should do vs. going about and retunning everything. You need to make sure 100% that your motor is ok by going back to the original pipe to make sure you are good.

Nope did not have time or the pipe with me to test it out. I was thinking of throwing the stock pipe on and seeing how things work with the perfect tune I had with it first. Like you said before I go chasing the tune with the option pipe, I guess I should retry the stock muffler and make sure all is fine. It's just running so badly It is almost hard to beleive the new pipe could change things that much.

Yah,

I would put it back to square one first to make sure 100% that the engine is good.

Yeah your right....Better off doing that and then at least I know I am not dealing with other problems, just the pipe issue. Guess I can reinstall the old pipe this eve. and try and get out with it sometime this week and see how she performs.

Thanks

Well I installed the stock pipe back on the truck and it ran fine. Looks like the motor is good as I origionally thought. I gather the option pipe just must flow so much easier it changes the characteristics of the motor and the stock settings from AE for the 8.0 are basically out the door with this new pipe. I am guessing I am going to have to lean out another 3/4 to a full turn on the high side and probably near as much on the low before it's running good again.

I will list my tune and complete combination once I am dialed in so if anyone else installs this pipe it may save them the headache I have so far gone through.

I did hear on monstergt.com someone else just installed the pipe and they said there truck picked up some for sure. Going to inquire on there settings.

Finally got my MGT fixed with the new tranny drive cup up front. Runs great as always. I also finished fixing the Savage XL's first gear on the tranny, and again after half a tank through the track something goes wrong with the drivetrain! Looks like another gear on tranny stripped and fron and rear diffs are gone too! I gave up on that thing and brought it back to HPI. Told them to see what I am doing wrong and why I cannot get more than half a tank on this truck without something on the drivetrain going out.
