Status: online 		This is the most incredible work on a Proctor Nieuport that I've ever seen! That engine is a work of art. That it also spins turns me green with envy!

Status: offline 		thanks for the comp. coming from you it's an honor, i mean your all over the place on most of the forums where do you find the time. i finished the stab and rudder and mounted them on the plane. for the russian death head i used a bit of my own design, being a graphic artist theres no limit to what i can draw or paint, decals etc. i noticed in researching the rudder that some not all the skull and crossbones were different some had a lot more detail some the eyes wern't as droppy and some had the crossbones under the head so i went with my own thing. i found the skull itself on some vector photo site they wanted 13.00 so i saved as the little pic and redrew it on my computer and then drew in the crossbones. i tried the head off the tail of a plane you have posted but it didn't look right it didn't seem to go with this much detail so i did one with a little more detail and i'm pretty happy with it. here are some pics.

Status: online 		Very cool looking! But you may be a better artist that the guy at the squadron back in WWI! You're right that there seems to have been a bit of variation. As a graphic artist I'm sure you're aware of visual fashions. I often see a different aesthetic being reflected in these WWI graphics something that reflects a kind of visual memory now lost to us.

Status: offline 		is that your scratch built N-11? i never knew you did a russian version, very nice job. you have brought a lot to this hobby and like myself taken are fair share. ive used some of your ideas more than once. a professer in college told me every problem contains it's own solution and iv'e grown to believe that. so many of us look outside the box but before looking outside you have to look inside first. 3 bad ideas may lead you to a great idea and at the very least you know 3 things that didn't work. your a great inspiration for me to achieve what i have in such a short time. i study quantum physics on the side it's kind of a hobby. 3 more trips to home depot and i'll have my time machine finished. LOL i think if i could go back i would go back to the turn of the century and be flier and an inovator what a exciting time it must have been. youve given and taught me much about this hobby we truly injoy, thankyou, rob

Far from scratch-built it's just a Flair Legionaire kit that I started building to have a "practice plane" for the scratch-built N11 I started on several years ago (partly out of boredom). I honed my skills a lot of this building but the trying to make something "scale" from the Flair kit is all about putting a dress on a pig. I was in the last stage of building it when I got the offer to build the Snipe. So I sort of mothballed that project. But it's awfully close to a flying condition so I need to spend the couple of weeks required to get it ready.

I decided to do the Russian version just for the rudder alone.

Ask enough stupid questions and eventually someone thinks you're wise. Four years ago I knew absolutely diddly-squat about anything RC. My building experience was limited to some static Guillow's kits as a teen.

How did you do the roundels?

Status: offline 		i custom make really thin waterslide decals they are a bear to put on but once the process is done they look just like paint. i also use decal setter and and overcoat.

Sorry, the N11 project got moth-balled probably permamently. I just look at it as a period of "building practice." The Flair Legionaire is pretty close to finished and now that I've gotten more Nelson's clear I can finish the clearcoating and get on to adding the control cables. I won't bother with any more detailing on that model. Again it was mostly just building practice and many of the things I learned I've applied to the Snipe.
