He's also the idol of nearly every 3D pilot in the world. That other website (DOD) pretty much dedicates most of their video and 3D conversation on him. BTW That's a $10,000.00 Carden Edge he's tossing around there. Mind you he has been flying 5 years now. Turns 19 this year. Those are some of the moves I'm trying to learn on the 30% planes. Some of them I wouldn't even try to attempt. I can promise you one thing though. After the first time you fly your plane you will have a whole new appreciation of what he's doing there. Both my sons did cars for years but the first time they flew they walked away a nervous wreck literally shaking like a leaf. It's a whole new experience. I'm sure you'll enjoy it and the more you learn the more you'll want to learn. Just remember, nobody learns everything, except Kyle. LMAO God I hate kids!!!! LOL Just kidding! The bottom line is that there are pilots at all levels and styles. Pick the one you are comfortable with and enjoy it! That's what this sport is all about, you and your plane having fun!!! Keep in touch and feel free to PM or e-mail me anytime. I'm always happy to help when I can and love to watch people progress. Besides, I want a full report on your first flight!!
Al

Foxy,
Lou55 has touched on quite a bit on large planes and having the goal of getting into them is a good one. Just take it one step at a time. You may end up having a natural skill that lends itself to larger planes. These tend to get quite expensive. A good setp for a 50cc plane (around 85 inch wingspan) will cost about 2500US and that' s assuming you have a decent radio to fly it with. My 46% Ultimate is closer to 7K but it's got the best of everything with the 30.M Composite-Arf Extra 260 coming a very cloe second.
But I'll tell you this much, larger planes do definitely fly way better which is one reason you see trainers with huge wing spam. The real difference is they are very lite weight.
Just to give you an idea, here is just some of my toys, some are my pics and others are pics of them when someone else owned it or are the factory pics because it's not finished yet or I just have not got around to getting pics yet.
The first one is the Hangar 9 46% Ulimate, this one I bought used just as you see it. The second one is a 33% Wildhare Edge, this was bought brand new and is a 3D animal, the next one is an Aeroworks 50cc Yak, also bought brand new, again this one is a 3D animal as well as one good IMAC (competition)machine. The next one is my fat butt with my IMAC machine, a 2.3M Comp-Arf Extra 330L. This plane saw many first places this past year and will be retired at the beginning of next season. . The next one is one I just bought used from the guy standing over the tail, that is the Flying Woodbutcher with Vince Musser getting ready to try to kick my butt in a competition. The cool thing about this plane it was finished the day before the competition started and got passed around 3 different pilots like a cheap hooker. Right out of the box with no changes it gave Vinny 4th place and that was on a plane he never flew before. And the Quique Somenzini Pitts Python. It's at the LHS waiting for me to come get it. The gentlemen holding the plane is Quique Somenzini and he is considered the godfather of the way we fly these days and heck of a nice person to talk to. And finally the next one is a stock pic of the Comp-Arf 3.0M Extra 260. Mine is done and looks just like this one and is the new competition machine for 2008.
The whole point is to show you just what awaits you and your credit cards when you are ready and if you become addicted to planes as we all have

He's not bad I suppose. loooooooooool
That's some serious talent, though of course I've no idea how difficult it is. He's totally fearless with those flat spins almost down to the runway. Impressive.
That's easy to explain, it's called age. When we were his age, we all had reflexes like that along with the eye sight to match. Now at 47 I have but one half decent reflex left and she's on the DVD right now (Eva Green in 007 Casino Royal YUM YUM )

I'll get video too, don't worry guys, and I'll show it even if it's wreckage.

Oh and don't think we don't fully expect you to!!!! LMAO Oh, just a tip, if you can see your thumbs move on the sticks, you're over-controlling the plane! LOL

And I got ya by 10 years Bill and I have to fly with him!!!
Yea and I get to fly with Vinny all the time and he's 26 and could stand up to Kyle easily. I was frustrating Vinny today. He's finaly decided to work with me on improving my 3D skills and I could tell he was getting frustrated a bit but then he's pretty tired right now, his girlfriend just had ther baby and I was holding him yesterday and making him smile and when Vinny would hold him he would cry, I called it payback....

Kyle doesn't even bother with me! Gave up when I wouldn't let him take my car to Tucson! LOL I got HIS instructor helping me now! Let's see, if I live to be 110 and can still fly I might get the rolly, loopy thing down pat! LMAO!!!! So the baby smiled huh??? First time I saw ya I laughed out loud!!! LMAO!!!!

That is a beautiful Ultimate (third pic). Very very nice. How many hours of training/solo flight do you think I'll need before I can just 'handle' one. I'm not talking about aerobatics, just to be able to enjoy flying it??
Foxy, Thanks, You could be into one of these in as little as a year if you have the knack for flying. You will never know until you fly. I would'nt recommend that plane until you are considered an expert.
The Eagle is actually a nice flying plane in the air, but as stated, a real bear to get on the ground, makes a guy feel like a beginner again.
Ultimates, depending on which one you get are a joy to fly, and much easier to land, same with the Edge.
With your knowledge in cars and RC in general, you should not have any trouble being on a fast learning curve, the question will be, how big is you wallet.
Here's the motor on the Eagle, most guys would have put a 50cc gasser on this, but I just could'nt resist the twin.

Thanks for the info, so I'd be better off with something like an Edge, and then after that, maybe a bipe... money is not the major issue, I'm an IT consultant and IS auditor for one of the big 4 consultancies, and my fiancee is a 27 year old self made millionaire, so I can spend the money if the plane is 'right' for me. I can probably bear a few crashes on the learning curve as well, though of course I hope that won't be the case...
I asked earlier but maybe it got missed...what's the plane in Ken's avatar? The black and yellow bipe? I assume it's his pride and joy since it's his avatar, and was just curious what it must be, something pretty special I imagine?
EDIT: PS Guys, I want to express my appreciation for all the help, I feel very privileged to have the only three page topic on the first page, and I'm very grateful for your enthusiasm and interest. You guys ROCK.
