so, the females that can, have brains more akin to a male brian, does this mean that a high proportion of female rc pilots are lesbians?
lol lets see what happens.
girls, i am of course joking but the bait for this joke is too tempting, my weak male brain i guess

Ok, IURMD, I point the stick to the low wig, towards the side my sailboat bow isfalling off to or the way the car is moving towards when coming at me. So that answers THAT question. I know plenty of guys that couldn'tfind north with both hands and a compass. Generalizations suck, then trying to justify them with a lot of technical jargon sucks even worse. Flying is an aquired ability, you stand on the ground without a horizon to judge by to orient yourself and your plane. Ifly, my sister flies and 48 other women in our group all fly everything from indoor electrics to patern and giant scale. Now just where do we lack 3 dimentional orientation and spacial oreintation. Just because a person is asked a question that they an not relate too and give a wrong answer is NOT grounds to geeralize about. I know guys thatcan expalin quantum mechanics that can't find their wayto the bathroom without a dog and a white cane, do you think they could fly a plane without a lot of help??????? Gloria:

Lashing out at ignorance is pointless, an exercize in futility.

There are definite physiological differences between men and women, and mental differences ensue to a large extent from the physical differences.

But none of the differences preclude a woman being a whale of a pilot.

The only poster I'm going to point out is JS3, since he has used a number giving 10% of the population being homosexual. This is in error, the latest numbers say only 1.7% of the population are *******. But the gay/lesbian community is extremely vocal, and would like the straights to think they amount to a majority.

I am reminded of Oscar Wilde, a famous (or infamous if you prefer) British "TwinkleToes" of the early 20th century - "Celibacy is the most unusual of all perversions." Roman Catholics, take note.

So let's all drop the discussion of why women can't fly, OK?

Bill.

Edited out unnecsasary word regarding homosexuality!!!!!!!

No, John, you are wrong.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I could have quoted that study to you verbatim. In point of fact, do you consider yourself average? Have you lived your life as dictated by these scientific studies? Of course not because you are an individual. In any endeavor you will succeed because you want to, in direct proportion to the blood sweat and tears you put into it. Period. But you have to have an interest in the subject first. Model RC flying just doesn't interest as many women as men. But the ones that it does interest won't let a statical sampling determine their flying capabilities, and neither should you.

Sure, there are minor differences in male and female's way of thinking but there is one trait that is the same. Dedication.

I am sorry about the out burst, but I have to put up with that kind of generalization a lot in my work.

Women fly planes because they share a common bond with everyone else in our hobby, the love of flying. For many years it carried the the feeling of a male oreinted hobby, and it basically still is, but that is changing. For many years women were house wives and if a woman went to work it was a shock. Now look at the workforce.

This hobby need women and young people if it s to survive. Look around you at the flying fields, it is a majority of older people. Lookaround you at the trade shows, the same thing, but keep an eye on things, be cause at the trade show more and more women are coming, and they are not all spectators any moore. And what really warms your heartis the number of young people, both boys and girls, leaving these shows with planes under their arms. This is our hope and our future.

We have to use these untapped resources women, and especiallythe young people. The parkflyers arestarting toget their attention and we, with our flying clubs nees to put forth a yeoman effort to attract these people. If it means giving up someof our civeted flying time to help these people then we as indiviuals and flying clubs need to do this.

Again I am sorry for my outburst. We need to spend more time sharing our love of flying instead of grumping among ourselves. Gloria

In my defense, I didn't quote the 10% figure from any particular or recent research. It is a number I heard at one time a while back. I was merely making a point and 10% seemed to be a convenient number for the sake of illustration. Of course, there is the fact that statistics may vary depending upon to which study one refers. (Whom do you believe?)

Now if you want to talk about communities that are extremely vocal, take a look at the right-wing-conservative-GOP. They are vocal to the point of it being deafening.

There IS a difference in the female brain. I am not saying that woman can't or shouldn't. Probably the smoothest landings I have experienced in a commercial flight were with a female pilot, probably because women excell in fine motor skills.

I bet you FlyerGirl has better flying skills than I do. But THERE IS A DIFFERENCE.

Respectfully,

Luis

Luis,

The KEY phrase in the paragraph you quote is "on average." This is akin to the statistic that 10% of the population is homosexual. Does this guaranty that 1 out of 10 of your friends is homosexual? Not at all. It just means that when the population as a whole is accounted for, 10% are gay.

Statistics and generalities break down when applied to smaller groups or individuals. This is why stereotypes are dangerous.

bad example the gay population as with all other groups they tend to gravitate toward each other in other words if none of your 10 friends live in a gay community or go to gay bars that doesnt mean your wife doesnt have better basic motor skills

You are correct. Flying is an ACQUIRED ability, and as such, it is probably easier to learn by the individuals who posses the innate (read "natural" tools needed to acomplish the tasks involved. Those tasks include spatial orientation and fine motor skills, among others. Now, women have IN GENERAL better fine motor skills, and IN GENERAL men have better spatial orientation skills. OK, so there is no reason for men or women not to be able to learn how to fly. I would just rather have (IN GENERAL) a female pilot with a male navigator, otherwise, we could very gently drift out of course into oblivion.

Enough, already

Luis

Remember Prince Henry (known as "The Navigator) and Christopher Columbus. And then there was Leif Ericson. It is, you see, that men, in contrast to women, do not NEED to ask directions.

Haw.

dude... that just proves you have no clue what you are talking about...... I happen to fly with females in all crew positions.. i had to fly with an all female front end crew... pilot, copilot, flight engineer, navigator, and back up load master.. yes.. being the new guy on the plane.. my first instinct was a little of question, but i soon found out they were better to fly with then most of the guys.... so, i just disagree with EVERYTHING you have said thus far nothing personal.. Statisticly speaking, the female navigators can do a better job then their male counterparts.. ( dropping people/ equipment on the drop zone more accuratly)
