I was wondering how tough of an airframe this thing has. Im a pretty good profile 3der and have been looking at this thing for a while. Also wondering a what setups and wieghts people are comming in with and how much prop they can clear.

Now for the hard part. I have a unique engine which I think will fit with no problem. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4171870/anchors_4171870/mpage_1/key_g62/anchor/tm.htm#4171870 I have since remilled the head and gone to a 15:1 compression with a pipe and another ignition. It was a little sissy motor but has developed testicular fortitude since. However, I have suffered a prop failure which destroyed the crank and and my test stand and mount. Its now rebuilt and running again with another prop. I can bend and weld up a header to wrap around the head and depart strait back.

Interesting but I really can't comment on your engine or how it will perform as I know nothing about it nor have any experience obviously with that one. As far as how "tough" the airframe is well that is really up to how you build it. No 50cc or bigger plane is going to withstand banging on the ground but it will handle anything you do to it in the air.

Just wondering about the firewall and nose area. I'm running 15:1 compression, ported and bored on a pipe, 110 oct race fuel with twin plugs now. It wraps up really hard, almost violent. Me and a friend had a competition amongst ourselves to see just how much money we could **** off on a G62. (he won). I now have a little monster which needs a home. I cant remember exact weight but its pretty light after all mill work etc.. Im guessing 4.5lbs in the nose would still keep it in CG. I also need to open the nose up around the cylinder head. Im also in the process of trying to figure out what big prop I can turn in my power band safely.

Sounds like quite a project. Can you post pics of your engine mods and what kind of prop and rpms are you getting out of it now? Since the Hybrid is a kit build you certainly have the option to add reinforcements here and there if you think your engine is too hard on the frame. I would consider the Hybrid as tough as any other 50 cc ARF out there on the market right now.

Well if you hit the link you will see what it looks like. The head is virtually the same with some different milling to reduce weight. Thats an old post with just a 13:1 head and electronic ignition. It would spin a menz 22x10 over 8000(close to 8800 peak and 83 or so richened out). The new engine added dual spark plugs, additional porting, pipe and header, 15:1 compression and 110 octane race fuel by sunoco. I had a 22x10 prop fail (NOT MENZ) and destroy everything. I was in front of the engine and my wife had the throttle (identical to prev pictures). After the engine warmed up we started working our way up. It stepped up on the pipe and took off. The tach was skipping a thousand or so as it was climbing. I wont state prop manufacture or rpm but it was way on up there. I have since discovered some rpm limitations of both engine and props. The rpm limits with the engine are related to hub and bearing design. The new engine has had the rotating assembly balanced and hub properly indexed so they line up within .0001. Its the best I can do with my lathe. I'm now testing some 24" and 26" of various pitches.
Granted this engine is not for everyone. This whole thing started one day with two airline pilots wondering who could p*** off the most money on a G62. His is a little faster and its anodized, polished, full engine is cryoed, and exhaust is ceramicoated in and out. It was a money is no object, just for fun, project done just to stick it to everyone that bad mouths the old g62 while touting their DA or 3W or ZDZ.

Now just looking for a project to put it in. I will probably have to take it off the pipe and tone it down a bit. I love your kits! So the edge came to mind. I am banned from any purchases until after Christmas for the time being. So I have time to research.
