The forum doesn't seem to be too active lately, so I thought I'd post some pictures from our club combat the last few weeks.

Our club is located in Jackson, TN. http://www.wtrcf.org

We have guys that fly everything from scale to pattern, 3d to helicopters, and about 7 or 8 guys that fly combat, including a couple of guys that are just getting into it in the last week or two. If you're interested in flying some combat with us just shoot me an e-mail or come out to the field on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. We fly SSC but we're not picky about the rules so anything with a .15 on it's fine.

Here are a few combat pics from the last couple weeks from our club's website.

Jimmy closing in on Danny.

I think the one on the left is Tim, not sure who's on the right. Several guys have yellow wings.

Rick, one of our club's newer combat pilots, is flying the red plane still with it's streamer.

This is everyone headed out to the runway before starting. Nick is flying a delta plane, but I don't know the name of it.

Jimmy had a mid-air. When he hit the ground the rubber bands holding the wing on snapped. A dozen rubber bands and he'll be back in the air.

Rick's plane

Very close to being a mid-air!! I'm flying the pink plane. Yes, that's Econokote's color "Circus Pink."

Some tight "fur-ball" action. This is what you see a lot of if you go to a sanctioned contest where there are usually 7 or 8 planes in the air at a time.

Jimmy's just about to cut Rick's streamer in this shot.

Jimmy and I had a mid-air which resulted in us having to land out in the field.

I think Tim was the winner that day.

Like I said, come on out and fly with us. We're about 1 mile from the Passmore Lane interchange on hwy 45-Bypass. There's a map available on http://www.wtrcf.org as well.

See ya at the field!

Alex

P.S.
I'm not used to uploading pictures to this forum - wasn't sure how the "attachements" were going to work. How can I add captions to the attachments so I don't have to insert the full size pics above? - Thanks!

One other note,

Our club is hosting it's third annual combat meet, the Mid-America Combat Championship at the field on June 21. It may be the largest SSC contest in the country this year, so even if you're just interested in seeing how combat works, it will be the place to be!

Looking back through our club's website, I found some more pictures from the last couple months.

Jim and me tieing up a couple of streamers. Let's get ready to rumble!

My Dad, Tim, and me. I think the pink color rubbed off on me (last year he flew an Axe which the Georgians lovingly named "Big Pink" That's Econokote's "Circus Pink". It's bound to be the next big fad!
Note to self: Remember sun glasses!

Starting up.

Jimmy G. has an orange streamer. We must have been out of yellow.

I think the one on the left is my Dad (red tips). I'm not sure who's on the right.

Had this shot been taken about a second later, you'd see a cut!

Jimmy has my streamer on his fin!

Jimmy, the winner coming in for landing.

I had a mid-air with someone, which killed my prop and I had to land in the tall-grass past the runway. A little fuel and I'll be back in the air!

Jim's showing us how pretty a green wing can be. For some reason you don't see too many green wings in combat. Wonder why?

My streamer appears to have been cut by someone else, but I did catch the black one over my wing!

This engine still runs great. There's nothing better than the little OS LA-15s.

"You ready dude?"

They must be twins!

We fly combat most weekends so come on out! We're always looking for more guys to get in the fight!

For directions to the field you can see them at www.wtrcf.org, or e-mail me from my RCU profile. See ya there!

Hello,
It looks like our club here in Harford County Maryland has some guys that are interested in doing this type of combat. Would you be so kind as to create a list of additional items and recommend equipment for the Battle AXE SSC's to get things going.
Thanks,
Robert

For the Axe .... go to: http://www.treneffrc.com/default.asp

You can not go wrong with this plane. I fly SSC and Limited B with them. I have 6 and can recommend them strongly.

That is the place where we will purchasing them. I have read there FAQ's, but I still would like a complete list of other required items to purchase to finish the planes.
We will most likely do a bulk purchase to take advantage of Towers free shipping and other dollar off deals.

Go to the web site and click on the Products tab, go to kits, then accesories. They have a list of everything needed for your Axe. You can order the complete kit with everything as a one stop shop.

Hi Robert, there are just a few things you'll need to complete the kit.

You will need Fiberglass Bi-Directional tape. This tape has stands two directions and gives the wing most of it's strength. You can get a 21-yd roll (1 airplane) at some office stores for around $9-10 per roll, which will do one aiplane. We have an economy 60-yd roll (about 3 airplanes) for $12.99.

Final covering by econokote or colored packing tape is optional. The covering makes the plane a little prettier and aerodynamic, but adds an ounce or two, which isn't that big of a deal. You can fly the plane in bare fiberglass bi-directional tape.

The kit is designed specifically to work with either micro MG servos (such as HS-81MG or CS-12MG) or standard-size servos (S3004 or equivalent). Either will be fine. Using 3 standard servos will add about 2 ounces compared to micros. This won't be a big issue unless you're competing on the national level. Half the guys at our field are using full-size servos and they are competitive.

The Battle Axe will accomodate either a standard "7-channel" receiver or a mini-reciever such as Electron 6 or 2.4 gHz. You can use a 350 mAh NiCad or 750 mAh Ni-mH (AAA size).

The easiest way to get the fuel/control accessories is to add the pre-assembled accessory kit for the Battle Axe. If you want to get them from Tower, you'll need a few control linkages. We like Dubro horns (#437 I think). Get a 4-ounce tank. If you're using standard servos, use the Dubro 4oz square tank. With Micro servos either Dubro tank or Hayes Slimline tank will work, but we prefer the Slimline.

All combat planes are built with Elmer's "Ultimate" polyurethane glue. You can pick up a bottle of this (or the "Gorilla Glue" ) brand at walmart. One bottle will do a lot of airplanes.

And last but not least, Master Airscrew 8x3 props. They are the spec prop you'll need if you want to fly in an offical contest, and the .15's run really well on them.

Let us know how we can help you. We're looking forward to chasing your streamer!

Got a few pictures from last Saturday. Thanks Dave Huff for taking the pictures.

Brian sneaking up on me!

I managed to get back behind Brian and get the cut!

Nick went down early due to a mid-air. The rubber bands snapped off, but everything was still flyable!

My Dad sneaking up on my six!!

Rats, I missed!

Mixing things up a little!

Brian retrieving his plane.
