I purchased a super brain 977 last month, and have been using it to charge NiCad, NiMH, and LiPo batteries. I have already puffed one LiPo with the charger due to it changing values without my noticing. If I am charging two LiPo batteries at once, I enter all the information on both A and B side before hitting either start, because as you mention in the manual the button presses are sluggish when once side is charging. On several occasions when hitting start, it appears to not take the button press, or takes the press and immediately stop. If I then step through the settings I find that the charger has changed the cell count from 2 to 5.

Is this my error, a malfunction, or poor design?

Is there any way to reset the parameters to default other than power cycling the charger?

Is there any way to change the default parameter values?

I think it is a matter of pressing the start button from the cell count screen entered by the user. Once you put in the cell count then push start and the word "lipo" must apear on the screen. If not, then it has reverted back to nickel type batts and as you stated it thinks it is a 5 or 6 cell nickel battery.

I do know what you mean by entering all values first, but in the case of lipo you should enter all values, then cell count , then start. Then go to side B (or A) and do the same.

Sorry I never replied, but Guver had it right. Press the start button on the cell count screen, and the word "LIPO" will show on the screen. If it doesn't, then stop the charge and re do the settings. You're right though, you can do all of the settings before you hit either start button, as this will speed things up. But definitely hit the start button on the cell count screen to confirm it's in LIPO mode. Also, the settings have to be re-set for every battery you put on, the settings aren't retained from battery to battery, and the default settings can't be changed. Again, sorry for not responding, I had thought Guver had pretty much covered it. Let me know if you're having any other problems.

Tim,

This is a poor design. When attempting to charge two batteries, pressing the start button quickly will not take. Holding the start button for a second or so may work, and it may fail, what a crapshoot. In a recent weekend, I had to restart the process 7 times in order to get two batteries charging at the same time.

What do you suggest? Sell it on ebay and buy a Triton?

Dave

While pressing the start button to start the first channel, it should only be a quick press of the button. When starting the second channel, holding the start button down for 1 second will start the charge. Pretty much listen for the "beep" to confirm that the charger has started, then immediately let go. We haven't had any real problems with the 977 and charging two batteries, unless you have a faulty button. But if it starts the channel by itself with a quick press, then I'd say it's working fine.
Selling the charger is up to you, just remember the Triton has only 1 output and no power supply for about the same price.
