Is there a difference between brushless and coreless? I'm...ready for this???...clue-less!

BWAHAHAHaaahahahhahahhaaaaaa

Serious question though. 8-)

Coreless, has a rotor with no layered iron 'core' to wind the copper coils around. They are held in resin or plastic. This gives less rotor mass and lower inertia, faster spin up speed.
Brushless, (sounds like an inrunner in this case) has the magnet/s on the rotor core.

So is there still a track and wiper thingy for the feedback pot----if so, a pity----that's where they wear on IC planes.....

Hello f3a05
(why don't we have names on this forum? It's kind of like the old Secret Agent Man program: we've given you a number and taken 'way your name!)

Hello again f3a05 ... Yes! this is an example of clear thinking. You know that it has to be the design team's next task.

best regards,
Dean Pappas

Futaba has just came out and said these servo's are only for surface use.

IMHO, the Futaba US recommendation of BLS451 as for cars / surface use seems not well understood by the Futaba US folks themselves - as you can see that they are checking with Futaba Japan as to where the recommendation comes from.

As far as I can tell from my own plane and car experience, the cars put more harsh use on the servo - car motors are hard-mounted to the alu chassis, as well as the servos are usually hard-mounted too. In a buggy there is a high chance of dust or moisture exposure to the servo, so the car servos are sealed. When jumping, the steering servo gets a severe kick when landing, while the brake servo works with quite a high tension/resistance of the brakes and centering springs. Some cars have ABS which requires the servo to brake with fast pulses - a very hard load. On the other hand, track racing cars require very fast reaction and precise positioning. Also these car servo must be very wear-resistant. Overall, a top car servo usually makes an excellent heli or airplane servo, while plane/heli servos may be not designed to stand the high vibration/impacts and dust/moisture of car use.

I have multiple BLS451 in my cars ( both on and off-road ) and so far they are simply excellent - especially when paired with an Rx-Tx with improved ( lower ) latency, like the surface Futaba HRS ( I have the 2.4G 3PM Tx ) - the response is instantaneous and very precise. IMHO I would take posts which complain of one brand and immediately say that after buying brand Y the poster reached eternal happiness, as a bit suspicious ;-)

Also I see lots of Heli folks using 9450/9451 servos ( and Jet guys with 9351 ) over recent years, and these are also car servos by Futaba own recommendations, while listed as plane-compatible.

Just my 5 € cent.
