I'm looking for a source of 8" wheels for my current project. The scale width is 2".

Thanks,
Scott

But they are 2 1/2".
2" is rather thin for such a big tire. You might have to make up your own. Smooth-On componds, at about 80 or 90 durometer works pretty good.

Mike:
Where would a guy get material to say build his our tire? There are several places that would turn me a wheel, it is the tire that seems to be a big problem.

I've used the products made by " Smooth-On"
Sold at a local casting outlet here in Toronto.

Mike:
That is a cool site, one question after reviewing the chart. Is the "SHORE A HARDNESS" the same as "durometer". If not how do you compare the two? Tried looking for a large "O"-ring, can find lots of 8" OD x 1/2" ring section but not any bigger section measurements. Thinking I might use a couple to build the bead of the tire, a length of poly pipe insolution for a flexible core and then "Smooth-Sil" on the tread! What do your think? First I have to come up with the wheel, currently looking at making it of plastic (PVC) with maybe brass bearing surfaces.

Difference between Shore & Durometer.

Shore hardness, and I'm thinking specifically of the Shore Scleroscope is quite common in determining hardness in metals. The Shore Scleroscope measure the rebound height of a diamond tiped hammer.

The "A" hardness is a conversion scale.

Durometer, is strickly a measure of softer materials, like nylon, rubber, urethanes, etc

ByLoudDesign, , ,

Do a search for "o-ring cord", you'll get a bunch of hits.

Typical
http://www.elastoseal.com/o-ring_cord.htm

This place has it up to 1" cross section. Other sites might have even larger sizes of cord.

For the black rubber types:
Simply cut a piece of the cord for the desired diameter, join the ends with CA.

I should have remembered that I onece had to make "O"-rings for the big klystron in our air search radar because someone screwed up and we didn't have a orderable part for about 6 months. Thanks will surely do a search!

Look what I found! Thanks to you! Use a little "Smoot-Sil" and away we go, into the wild blue yonder!
