.26...

Just kidding.. I'm asking the same question in the engine forum..

I think most racers go for 21's cuz of the fuel efficiency, and those who opt for 28's are more into bashing.

.21's are better because of as mentioned better fuel economy, AND you can usually find a decent one that gives you a good controllable powerband which can really help at the track.

Sportwerks 26 in my Mayhem ST, Force 32 in my Mutilator, XTM 24.7 in my Hellfire SS Picco 28 P3 in my Hyper ST Pro. I prefer bigger mills, its only fuel. I dont race enuff to get seriously competitive. Id perfer a nice bashing spot over the track anyday. If I was gonna do a 21, it would be only a RB, Rossi or a OS

I run em all..... but honestly nothing gets my heart pumping like a modded .21... The midrange feel of a screaming .21 is amazing..

Here is a video of a modded .21 vs a Ninja 28... we are running in loose heavy dirt, so its more of a advantage to the .28...If we were on normal hardpack, the .21 would take the .28...also remeber a Ninja 28 is a ballistic 28, they have sick top end.... Likely the highest revving 28 you can find......

That comparing should be done on a track not a dirt straight away.

not if your just trying to see whats fastest in a straight line.... a race around a track puts more on the drivers than the motors.
i prefer a 28 in my trugs, i tried a 21 and it didnt have the power out of the turns i was looking for. but im not a serious racer, we do have a nice private track that we run on tho. so all my running is done on a track.. but ours is set up for big power.

I bought a .21 RB for my XT8, but as far as what I could get from the people I takled to a .21 has a more usable power band for a truggy. A .28 will comsume more fuel and the potential power of the engine is not being put to use. That being said I am curious to try a RB 928 on my XT8. POWER RULES.

I know this is not a high dollar engine but I am very impressed with the sportwerks v2. Even with the small carb insert is hauls and does not suck down the fuel like my .28 did.

well it all depends on what your track looks like i suppose.. and the type of racing. if its a small tight track and long heats then a 21 would probably be better suited. if its a big track and refueling isnt a concern than a bigger will would be ideal!
our track is pretty big, and refueling isnt an issue, so i choose to run monsters! also some truggies like smaller mills, some like em bigger. my cen isnt a lightweight! i tried a 21 and though it was underpowered....

it depends on the track layout and heat lengths, shorter ones you'll see a lot of 28's, longer ones yu'll see 21's. most of the top racers just run crazy powerful and fast 21's anyways that use a drop of fuel a minute.

I love the power and responsiveness that my .28 has but may go to a .21 for racing. The fuel consumption of the .28 is crazy. My buddy was running a modded V-Spec in his Mugen and loved it, but decided to try the OS .28. He could barely get through a 5 minute qualifyer without needing fuel. He eventually went back to the V-Spec so he didn't have as many fuel stops. That OS .28 is a definate powerhouse but I don't really think it has any more power than a good modded .21. Just my observation.

I got my ass handed to me this WE by a guy driving a Kyosho STRRR with and OS 28 in it. I run an OS Speed 21. Our track is reasonably tight with about 43 sec lap times. This guys recently won the south australian state titles with this OS 28 and STRRR. He then cleaned up at judgement night pulling an average of 3 sec a lap faster than next closest truggy. He alsogets nearly 10 min out of his OS28. Runs extra headshim, 8mm venturi with an OS 2060 pipe. I was rather impressed. I ordered an OS 28 that night. I will put the speed in my buggy. Now granted he is a pro driver but the acceleration out of corners and into jumps was insane.
