Tower now sells the Hitec HS5955 under their brand, called the TS-170. We had one opened and checked - absolutely identical.

Their have a special of 2 servos for about $85 each. They have another special of $30 off any order of $199 or more (code 010BA).

I just purchased two times two of these and a couple of small items (to reach $199) and used the promotion twice, for a final price of $70 per servo...

I just talked to a Hobbico rep, they said that the CS-170 is not programmable. So in that respect they are not the same. So if you don't need the programming function it is a good deal. But for myself one of the deciding factors for using Hitec digitals is the programmable function.

Hey guy you might want to check your math. On the two for deal they are 96.49 each less a 15 dollar on the coupon code would make them 81.49

Donalds hobby has the 5955 for 89.99 each and free shipping on orders over 100 bucks.

He might even come off that price when you are doing a whole plane load, has for me in the past.

Richard

It was opened and inspected visually and the IC is exactly the same. It is not economic for the manufacturer to change anything to the batch of parts he already has.

I will plug them into the programmer and see what gives, when they get in. I bet they are programmable, though.

If they are not, I am happy to give up programmability for a reliable 333oz titanium servos at $70. On airlplanes with 1 servo each for ailerons, or 1 servo for rudder, I don't really need it programmed.

It was bound to happen as Hitec moved to the 7955 and needs to get rid of their old stock of parts.

JR Will likely do the same and use the 8611a and 8411 parts in their low end budget series, now that they are phasing in programmable servos...

I got them for $192 per pair, which works out to $96 for one minus $15 each = $81

No shipping as well.

Ok, I just checked.

Hitec sells them to Tower without the firmware programmed into the IC.

So be it - I'll use it for rudders and take out the 5955s for places I need a programmable unit...

I just an add in a magazine, or was it the little booklet they sent around?

It showed a few smaller servos, mostly for electric flyers, with ability to program and a little programming module that was really cheap ($29) compared to the Hitec one...

It's probably a matter of time before they start with the larger ones as Hitec has been taking away their business for a while now. I also expect them to start providing better gears soon, as a lot of people dumped JR because of slop...

Sorta like Carl Goldberg, Top Flite, Sig, Coverite, Tower, Great Planes, etc., aren't part of Hobbico? Or did I confuse Hobbico with Tower? Hmmm.

Nice to know about the servos.

Did you just say that outloud?

For the price difference I will stick with Hitec.. most times going to use 2 servos everywhere except on the throttle if you are running unreg'd going to want to program them.
