SUCCESS!!!...I let it gain speed before pulling up, I just like huge throws since I'm used to 3-D planes with 45 degrees of throw(and HUGE ailerons), the pod on bottom did come to ubrupt stops but didnt cause damage, I am moving it to the top for the next flights though cause of the hard stop, the advanced wings provide plenty of lift with the stock single power pod, BUT it does need more power so I'll go brushless in a month or so, did a few rolls which were fast and clean, a loop from level flight(barley!) and had two good landings, I through it again and ended up landing in a roughly plowed field due to lack of power, tried to nurse it back over the field but it went down, no damage...one servo was bad stock, so I replaced it and it seems fine, no major glitches as of yet...Im happy for the 120 I have in it...so Ill be brushless for around 220...gonna use a 24-45-3790 ammo in it and a SS25 esc probablly on the 1500mah li-pos hopefully

just bought an ammo 20-40-3500kv on ebay along with an electrifly brushlessesc, the guy said 20 amp controller but its only saying it will draw 15 amps on the charts so it should be fine, also snagged an extra charger and 2 extra batteries(same as the stock pack) paid 78 bucks shipped for the whole lot so it was a great deal, the diablo got one short flight with pod on top today, worked great but storms were rolling in and the wind was kicking pretty good, so as soon and I got a smooth pass I set it down...the wind was throwing it around pretty badly due to it being under powered...hyperflow charts say 8.5oz thrust stock, and 14.2oz with the setup I have coming, so it should be quite a boost...I'll let you all know how it goes then...
heres some pics of where its at now, added elevator extensions, thing flys great, also increased my aileron throws a bit at the control horns...flys great but it is seriously underpowered so hopefully that BL setup is gonna fix it, will update when I get that installed...3 packs through it with 6 successful launches and landings

I flew my diablo for the first time since I crashed with the old radio. Now, with my DX6 I can say that it flies like a new plane. the stock servos have more travel in them with this radio, I didn't expect that. It makes the elevator much more effective and of course all the servo horns have the rods at the last hole.
Vertical: I had a 20-40-3500 until I hit a tree and broke it, its a good motor but now I got the 20-40-4040 and it works better with the same speed controller, faster that is. You will like it.

good to know, I am expecting it to fly like a new plane with that motor, it flies good now when at speed but sometimes it takes alot to keep it up, I fly the whole pack wide open, if that motor isnt enough I'll install the 24-45-3790 instead, being bigger physically it should have a little more grunt...I got the rotor cone on now and balanced on the brushed motor, and the motor is out of the unit, so if wont fly again until its BL...I would have bought a different motor but for 7 bucks on ebay it couldnt be beat...

If you go with that 24-45-3790 be careful, a guy on here used that set up with a 4 cell and it was too much for the hyperflow edf, which is limited to 50k rpm. I also had some problems with my plane yesterday. I had flown about 5 or 6 times with no problems. On first flight I had to trimm up the left aileron but last night it kept tipping the other way. I tried to bring it down and had no elevator either! And so it went and went and went until I lost sight. At that point I cut the throttle and began the search effort. Luckily I found it about 20 feet from a house. Didnt damage the house but destroyed the plane. Electronics are good but the foam is toast. I think the servo rods that connect to the elevator, rudder, and ailerons had come loose its the only thing I can come up with. Next time I will dial the plane in and then loctite the screws so they cant back out. It is frustrating to loose all that for such a simple part.

yeah I had read about the failure on 4 cell, I am using the stock packs as I bought two more at a bargain price, also bought the 20-40-3500 motor, and an ss-25 esc for it, all from the same guy on ebay(maybe he had a diablo)...animal, I have expirienced the pushrod issue on the ground though luckily, you really have to bear down on those screws to get them tight enough, also I put some slits in the hinge material( leaving a decent amount though) which made the surfaces move easier, my rudder still gave me that issue though but I dont use it much anyway....hopefully the brushless motor will get me some decent speed, its like an effort to keep it in the air with the stock motor...

Well I'm flying the T-28 Trojan daily and loving it. But it is time to play with the diablo some more. I've got a brushless ordered that should be here wednesday. A set of advanced wings are hanging on the wall at my LHS. Saturday should be an interesting day. I also have a dx6i 2.4 with two extra recievers that should be here Wed. Animal, did you buy the DX6 new? If so are you aware of the free reciever promotion Spektrum has going on until the end of the month? I will end up with the radio and 5 recievers for around $300. I really prefer Futaba but I wanted to go 2.4 and with the free reciever promo I couldn't pass up the DX6I.

I have a futaba 2.4GHz 3 channel for my performance boats and their fasst system is flawless, I have heard good things about spektrum as well, I use a trusty futaba skysport 4 in alot of my stuff though, Im gonna buy a spektrum air radio soon though I think, for my diablo, get those advanced wings, they handle very well(didnt fly the basic ones ever) but its stable with the advanced wings, roll rate is great if you bump the throws up, also dont forget to bump the throws up on the elevator and rudder, it even says to do that in the advance wing manual, they look tiny on the plane, almost like it shouldnt fly, and for all you who have basic wings laying around I found a use, heres a pic of my 3 channel trainer I used them for, gonna teach a friend of mine to fly with it before he buys a plane of his own(like a j-3 cub or something) the trainer is light strong, and most important a cheap throw together, should fly fine though, smoked my ESC do to a faulty inrunner I was messing with so I gotta wait for the new one to fly her...should work great though....

Vertical, If you are looking at getting a Spektrum you should get one before Wednesday. Right now you can buy the radio and up to two recievers and get a reciever free for each you buy. I ordered the 6dxi with an extra foamie reciever and an extra full size reciever. That will give me equipment for my three planes I now have plus the Hangar 9 Pawnee and whatever else I'm fixing to purchase. I have one of the new T-34 Mentors coming out next month on order but I think I will cancel it since and order the plug and play version since I have no use for the extra 6dxi that comes in the ready to fly model. -me-

yeah, money is a little tight, maybe if I wouldnt have the extra 100 bucks into the planes already this week I could, theres a few on ebay too so maybe I'll just get one there...I have been lucky enough to have a properly working tactic, at least for now, anyone know about what speed the diablo will do with the 24-40-3500 on 3s 1500mah with the advanced wings, cause I doubt it got much past 35-40 or so at best on the stock motor, and that wasnt often

I had a decent Tactic in my first diablo. Unfortunately my second glitches constantly. Check at your LHS they might have a dx6i less reciever cheap. They come with the Blade 400 heli's and alot of people who purchase them already have radio gear and just want to recoup a little money. I haven't flown the diablo brushless yet but there are a couple of video's on youtube with brushless that looks like they are getting in the 60-70 mph range. That's just my guess, sometimes videos are deceiving. -me-
After reading all the posts I have to say you guys are persistent with this flying turd. It is what it is. A cool looking underpowered cheap trainer. I turned mine into a glider. It also sounds like a lot of you guys are new to the hobby. If that's the case then welcome but rather than spending all your time and money trying new stuff on this plane, get another one like the T-28. If you want speed right out of the box with no mods, get a Twister. I've gone down the road with this plane. If you start puting more power through it, you will cook the electronics. For mine, I turned it into a glider and most likely will train my daughter how to fly.
